Say Anything...

Sorry about the few days without a post, I had to work a few days, and yesterday was dedicated to my first Morrissey concert going experience. He's a pretty hard dude to see live actually, being notorious for canceling his shows with little warning. In fact, out of the last 8 shows he was set to perform, he only went through with 2 of them due to illness. Luckily he was feeling up for it yesterday and put on a great show. The band sounded amazing (they have a much heavier sound when they play live), and Morrissey was charismatic, and occasionally a bit insulting to the audience, just as you'd expect. And, if you're wondering, he's still throwing his shirts into the audience even though he's pushing 50.

Unfortunately the show was in a terrible area. I have no idea why they insist on building these nice, expensive wine-serving theaters and performing art centers in the most terrifying of neighborhoods.

Today's post is the soundtrack from Say Anything, a film popular enough to have a band named after it. Actually, look for a song by that band on my as of yet untitled "Bands That Share a Name With a Movie" compilation. I think Say Anything might be Cusack's most popular 80's film (at least where he was the lead) and while I'm way more partial to The Sure Thing or Better Off Dead I can certainly understand Say Anything's appeal. And I can only imagine the amount of boombox-over-the-head Peter Gabriel serenades that followed in this movie's wake.

1 Nancy Wilson - All for Love 4:37
2 Living Colour - Cult of Personality 5:07
3 Joe Satriani - One Big Rush 3:25
4 Cheap Trick - You Want It 3:43
5 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Taste the Pain 5:04
6 Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes 5:23
7 Depeche Mode - Stripped (Live) 6:41
8 Fishbone - Skankin' to the Beat 2:49
9 The Replacements - Within Your Reach 4:26
10 Freiheit - Keeping the Dream Alive 4:14
11 Lloyd Dobler Rap 0:33

If someone can explain Fishbone to me, and their appeal, I'd really appreciate it.

Kickboxing. Sport of the future.

Great, thanks so much!

I also have to agree as far as Cusack movies go. I like Lloyd Dobbler well enough, but I prefer his quirky Steve Holland characters much more.

Thanks for this one! Oddly this is one of Cusack's movies I've never seen. I have no idea why, but I'm going to check it out soon. I always loved his role in "Better Off Dead".

I don't get Fishbone either.

When John Cusack holds up the boombox, the radio was actually playing Fishbone. They added Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" in post production.
