Without Warning Coming This August!

Scream Factory promised a big new title announcement for today and they've delivered. This August Greydon Clark's Without Warning will be hitting Blu-ray and DVD for the first time in the US. I've never seen this one, but it seems to be a pretty sought after title. I'm looking forward to this one - I've enjoyed a lot of Greydon's stuff like Satan's Cheerleaders, Joysticks, Angel's Brigade and Final Justice - those last two were featured on a couple of my favorite MST3K episodes.

I believe this must be old artwork, although I've never seen this poster before myself. Either way, I think this is the best artwork of any Scream Factory release so far, old or new.

**NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT!**

We are very thrilled to report that we are bringing Greydon Clark’s 1980 alien/slasher cult classic WITHOUT WARNING to DVD & Blu-ray for the first time this August!

This long-overdue release has been requested several times since we started the brand so we know many of you just jumped for joy. (We're jumping too!) What makes this even more exciting is that this title has never been released on ANY home entertainment format in the U.S. or Canada (and is often bootlegged as some of you can attest to) so to be able to bring this out period is a feat in itself.

No further details to report back at this time but we'll keep you posted on developments in a few months. The artwork you see - which uses the original theatrical poster - is final.(However, the flipside will have the other poster art some of you may remember with a girl running from flying alien discs.)

Our "Summer of Fear" release slate is now completel. Starting in May, the mayhem includes:

MAY
Final Exam
Evilspeak
Nosferatu
House in the Alley
Sleepaway Camp (Collector's Edition)

JUNE
Ravenous
The Monkey's Paw

JULY
The Final Terror
Lake Placid (Collector's Edition)
Deadly Eyes
Ginger Snaps (Collector's Edition)

AUGUST
Phantom of the Paradise (Collector's Edition)
Motel Hell (Collector's Edition)
Leviathan
The Legend of Hell House
Dog Soldiers (Collector's Edition)
Without Warning

Note: We are still working on trying bring HELLHOLE back into the mix too after pulling it for film element issues. We'll keep you posted but this one has been putting us through some “hell” of sorts.

For fans itching for further title announcements, we’re going to be a little quiet for awhile (at least a month) so please be patient. We have several more tricks up our sleeves!

Phantasm: RaVager Teaser Trailer!

Just a couple of days ago it was announced by Don Coscarelli that not only will there be a fifth Phantasm film, but that principal photography had already wrapped, so there technically already is a fifth Phantasm film.  Now today we already have a trailer, which you can find below.

I'm personally very excited about this, but I'm also finding myself a bit annoyed by how fans on the internet are reacting. We've been waiting years for a new Phantasm, and now that we finally get a new one - with Angus Scrimm, no less - instead of being excited I'm seeing a lot of fans (Phans?) allover the internet up in arms because Don passed directing duties on to his friend David Hartman, who he co-wrote the film with. Sure, we'd all prefer it if Don had directed it, but he didn't, and I've seen several people who are saying they refuse to watch a non-Don directed Phantasm. To me that seems like a dumb reason to immediately write a movie off. All I know is that Don had a hand in writing and producing it and it certainly seems like this Hartman guy did his homework, because this sure as hell looks and feels like a Phantasm film:

Gwar's Oderus Urungus Is No More

I'm a bit late posting this, so I'm sure pretty much everyone has already heard that Dave Brockie aka Gwar frontman Oderus Urungus was found dead in his home at the way too young age of 50.

While I loved Gwar's act, I honestly haven't heard a ton of their actual music - just a few songs here and there, but as a fellow Virginian and long-suffering Redskins fan this news has really been hitting me hard since I first heard it earlier today. This crazy bastard will surely be missed for years to come and I don't think the metal world will ever really be the same without him.

USAToday:
Dave Brockie, who fronted the heavy metal band Gwar using the stage name Oderus Urungus, has been found dead in his Richmond, Va., home. He was 50.

According to band manager Jack Flanagan, one of Brockie's bandmates found him Sunday evening. Richmond police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh says officers received a report of a dead person at the home shortly before 7 p.m.

"It is with a saddened heart that I confirm my dear friend Dave Brockie, artist, musician and lead singer of Gwar passed away," Flanagan said in a statement released Monday. According to Flanagan, Brockie's next of kin has been notified and Richmond authorities plan to conduct a full autopsy. "My main focus right now is to look after my bandmates and his family. More information regarding his death shall be released as the details are confirmed."

Listen To Swedish Death Metal Band Vampire's New Album For Free

Any Death Metal fans out there might want to check this out. Swedish Death Metal band Vampire's self-titled debut album is out in the US today and Bloody-Disgusting is currently streaming the album in its entirety. Any band that names a song after a Coffin Joe movie is well worth any horror/metal fan's time.

"Swedish death metal act Vampire will release its self-titled debut album in Europe on March 3 and in North America on March 18 via Century Media Records. Featuring ten tracks of relentless death metal with haunting melodies and a deadly horror vibe, "Vampire" promises to not disappoint. While Vampire's roots reach deep into metal’s most vicious origins, the eleven raw slices contained on the debut album will immediately catch your attention with their refreshingly morbid approach and should be hailed soon as some of the most poisonous metal of the decade."

Head over to BD to listen to the album.

New This Week 3.18.14

Tons of new Horror stuff out there today.

Craig Thompson's idyllic hunting trip with his two buddies and unstable cousin is wrecked after hearing that his fiancé and best man-to-be have been cavorting behind his back. To make matters worse, his cousin appears on the verge of a murderous rampage while a rapidly-spreading Chupacabra virus is turning locals into the undead. After shooting the ranch owner, drugging the Game Warden, and narrowly escaping an insidious hillbilly gang led by British magnifico, Billy Ray, the boys must not only survive an impending zombie melee but each other. BUCK WILD turns the buddy comedy upside down while tearing zombies inside out in this tongue-in-cheek adventure through South Texas.

After a lapse in her relationship with her lover (Katie Stegeman) forces twenty-something party girl Samantha (Najarra Townsend) to move back in with her overbearing mother (Caroline Williams, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), things seem to be at an all-time low. But the devil-may-care Samantha soon finds escape in a one-night stand with a mysterious man (Simon Barrett, V/H/S) who leaves her hung-over, guilt-ridden and infected. Uncertain of the disease or the man who gave it to her, Samantha attempts to hide it from her loved ones. But she soon realizes that she is not just the victim of an STD, but rather the host of something much more catastrophic, and that she and those around her are in mortal danger. Part zombie film and part body-horror shocker, director Eric England s CONTRACTED is a skin-crawling experience in biological horror.

More Pete Walker out today from Kino:

Billed as "An Appalling Amalgam of Carnage and Carnality," Pete Walker's The Flesh and Blood Show is an homage to the blood-splattered, sex-smeared theatre known as the Grand Guignol. Still haunted by an especially tragic production of Othello, a seaside theatre reopens its doors as a groovy musical revue, only to have several of its performers fall victim to the deadly curse.

Newly mastered in HD from the original 35mm negative, this special edition includes a newly-filmed interview with Walker, as well as the legendary 3-D sequence, presented here in both the stereoscopic and anaglyph formats (as well as conventional 2-D).

Blu-ray Features

• "Flesh, Blood, and Censorship," an interview with Pete Walker, by Elijah Drenner
• 3-D sequence (10 min.) in the stereoscopic format (requires 3-D television system)
• 3-D sequence in the anaglyph format (requires red/blue 3-D glasses, not included)
• Original theatrical trailer

Throughout his career, director Pete Walker was no stranger to controversy, but his 1974 film Frightmare sparked a firestorm of criticism from the protectors of public morals, who deemed it "despicable" (London Observer), "horrendous" (Evening News), and "a moral obscenity" (Daily Telegraph). In spite of the condemnation--or more likely, because of it--Frightmare has achieved almost legendary status in British horror history.

Sheila Keith stars as a former patient of a mental institution, who has settled down in a remote farmhouse, where she tells fortunes in her spare time. But the kind, maternal exterior conceals a dreadful monster, which the asylum, it seems, was unable to cure.

Blu-ray Features
• "For the Sake of Cannibalism," an interview with Pete Walker, by Elijah Drenner
• Audio commentary by director Pete Walker and DP Peter Jessop, conducted by Steve Chibnall, author of Making Mischief: The Cult Films of Pete Walker
• "Sheila Keith: A Nice Old Lady?" a profile of the late actress, featuring interviews with her former collaborators
• Original theatrical trailer

A couple's son and daughter inexplicably reappear after being lost overnight on a desolate, cave-riddled mountainside. Becoming withdrawn and beginning to exhibit strange behavior, their parents quickly assume something sinister happened to them. But after hearing an ominous local legend, the concerned mother and father begin to realize that their children may have fallen prey to something inhuman and that this dark, unstoppable evil has now returned home with them.

"Fly the not-so-friendly skies in this frightening tale of survival at 37,000 feet! On a flight from London to Los Angeles, a wealthy architect (Roy Thinnes) and his wife (Jane Merrow) have rented out a jumbo jet's entire cargo hold to transport a precious artifact -- an altar from an ancient abbey. But they're unaware of its deadly secret. Aboard for the ill-fated trip is William Shatner as a drunken, cynical ex-priest; Buddy Ebsen as an arrogant millionaire; and Chuck Connors as the heroic pilot. Not long after departure, crew and passengers alike face airborne jeopardy and supernatural horror as a demonic entity escapes from the altar, seeking to possess a hapless victim as well as seek revenge on those who would desecrate the sinister deity's ancient ritual site. Fasten your seatbelts . it's going to be a terrifying flight!"

"When Trish (Michele Michaels) decides to invite her high school girls’ basketball teammates over for a slumber party, she has no idea the night is going to end with an unexpected guest– an escaped mental patient and his portable power drill – crashing the party in the cult classic, The Slumber Party Massacre."

Shout! Factory released the Slumber Party Massacre Collection on DVD back in October of 2010, and now their Scream Factory line has given the first film a hi-def upgrade. I know I'll probably sound like a slasher amateur here when I admit this, but this was somehow my first time viewing Slumber Party Massacre. I have no excuse for this. I've seen hundreds of slashers, from the standards like the Friday The 13ths and Halloweens to off the wall obscure junkers like Hauntedween and Fatal Pulse, but this one has managed to elude me for 30 years. I'm a big fan of Slumber Party Massacre Part II, and the sequel shows many of the deaths from the first film in flashbacks and I guess I've seen the sequel so many times that I just assumed I'd already seen the original. I'm kind of an idiot, that's probably what actually happened.

After being exposed to the cheap and wonderfully campy Part II so many times over the past 20 years I was pretty surprised to see that this first film is much more serious and professionally made film. It's still a bit goofy at times, but it's actually a pretty great little mean-spirited slasher that should have a larger fanbase. If you're like me and have somehow neglected to check this one out before, this new disc from Scream is a great way to see it for the first time.

As I've stated on this site before I'm by no means an expert on A/V quality, but I think the new 1080p 24 MPEG-4 AVC 1.78:1 transfer looks great. It's definitely a nice improvement over the DVD, which you can see in the comparison shots below. DVD on top, Blu-ray on bottom. Click to enlarge

With the release of the new Godzilla film fast approaching in a couple of months Sony has announced a May 6th release date for four Toho Godzilla Collection Blu-ray double features:

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)

Meanwhile, a double threat arrives in the form of King Ghidorah, Godzilla's flying three-headed archrival and an evil and all-powerful android. The suspense builds to terrifying levels as the alien's sinister mission on Earth is gradually revealed and Godzilla must wage a solo battle against these evil forces who want to destroy mankind. High-tech special effects and awesome action highlight this present-day Godzilla epic. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah has a run time of approximately 100 minutes and is not rated.

Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth (1992)

After a series of earthquakes unearth a gigantic orb, a trio of Japanese explorers are dispatched to the mysterious Infant Island to investigate. There they discover the island's sole inhabitants, miniature twin women whose duty is to protect the mammoth ball, the egg of Mothra! When the explorers attempt to bring the egg back to the mainland, a furious Godzilla awakens from the depths and attacks the party, causing the egg to hatch and forcing its newborn larvae to fend off the gigantic monster. The humongous worm holds its own until help arrives in the form of Battra. When Mothra and Battra metamorphose into flying monster moths, the battle rages on land and in the sky. With two powerful foes to reckon with, has Godzilla finally met his match? Godzilla vs. Mothra has a run time of approximately 100 minutes and is not rated.

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993)

Built with the utmost in 20th-century technology, Mechagodzilla is the ultimate in Godzilla-busting weaponry. Fueled by a nuclear reactor and sheathed in a synthetic diamond shield, the mammoth metal robot is Japan's greatest hope for ending Godzilla's reign of terror. Meanwhile, on a remote island polluted by nuclear waste, a team of scientists discover a giant egg in a Pteranodon nest, and bring it home for study. When BabyGodzilla hatches, both Rodan and Godzilla return to claim the cuddly infant as their own. Will their monstrous maternal instincts cause a custody battle capable of destroying Mother Earth? Or will Mechagodzilla prove an effective eradicator, leaving BabyGodzilla an orphan for life? Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II has a run time of approximately 105 minutes and is rated PG for sci-fi monster violence and some language.

Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994)

The powers of telepathy enter the ranks of high technology in this supernatural, super-powered Godzilla adventure! The military minds behind Japan's special Counter G Bureau enter the New Age with Project T, in which a telepathic amplifier is implanted in Godzilla's brain in order to bring the giant monster under control. And just in time! In a faraway galaxy, the mutant SpaceGodzilla turns its evil eyes toward earth, planning to terminate Godzilla and conquer the planet for its own. With the Japanese Mafia infiltrating Counter G, the Bureau needs all the help it can get. Will Japan's greatest enemy Godzilla become its closest ally? Amid all the smoke and high-tech firepower, not even the psychics know for sure! Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla has a run time of approximately 108 minutes and is not rated.

Godzilla vs. Destroyah (1995)

With a super-charged blast from his nuclear past, a new Godzilla emerges from his own ashes, radioactive and ready to take on Tokyo! The great monster's nuclear energy is increasing by the minute, and a monster meltdown threatens to vaporize the planet. But when mutant micro-organisms unleash a plague of destruction, Godzilla is Japan's only hope to destroy them. This victory creates Godzilla's deadliest challenge yet: Destoroyah. And with Godzilla Junior pulled into the ring, only the Super XIII can put the deep freeze on this three-way monster melee. The action is hot and the special effects are chillin' in this high-tech, high-powered Godzilla thriller! Godzilla vs. Destoroyah has a run time of approximately 103 minutes and is not rated.

Godzilla vs. Megaguirus (2000)

Five years after Godzilla terrorized the city of Osaka, Japanese scientists have developed a sure-fire way to finally destroy Japan's monster nemesis. They have created the world's first man-made black hole, which will trap Godzilla for eternity! But during a testing of this new Dimension Tide, an insect caught in the hole mutates, producing gargantuan eggs that give birth to a new menace: giant dragonfly monsters called Meganula. Meganula queen, the 50-meter Megaguirus, is also on a hunt for Godzilla, needing to steal his energy to survive. From the sky down to the depths of a city's underground sewer tunnels, Megaguirus, Godzilla, and humankind battle for supremacy. Who will prevail in this high-tech, three-way battle of terror and destruction? Godzilla vs. Megaguirus has a run time of approximately 105 minutes and is not rated.

Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (2003)

Mechagodzilla, the superior-armed, state-of-the-art, all-robot version of Godzilla, is undergoing repairs after his devastating battle against the world's monsters. Twin tiny women appear and warn scientists to stop rebuilding Mechagodzilla but their warning goes unheeded. As the great robot nears completion, a series of mysterious incidents rock the world and awaken Godzilla, who unleashes a reign of terror against Tokyo. Mothra joins him and Japan's desperate Prime Minister has no choice but to launch the unfinished Mechagodzilla against Mothra and Godzilla. But who will fight for whom? And in the end - will the survivor be monster, robot or man? Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. has a run time of approximately 91 minutes and is not rated.

Godzilla: Final Wars (2004)

Godzilla's 50th Anniversary project and costliest adventure to date out of 28 films. Earth has been relatively peaceful since Godzilla was successfully buried deep in ice beneath the South Pole. Then -- sometime a few years hence - several of his old nemeses return to wreak havoc on cities worldwide. A huge spaceship suddenly appears and neutralizes all the monsters in a blink. The visitors are "Xiliens," who take human form and announce they would like to negotiate a peace treaty that would replace the United Nations with a "United Universe." They are indeed too good to be true, however. It doesn't take long before their nefarious real purpose is exposed - conquering Earth. Greatly outmatched, Earth officials decide to de-freeze Godzilla as man's only hope to vanish the invaders, as well as the monsters they control. Only trouble is Godzilla is still mad at man for freezing him in the first place. Godzilla: Final Wars has a run time of approximately 125 minutes and is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence.

Zomboobies - The Breast Movie You'll See All Year

Here's the most ridiculous thing you're likely to see all week. From the cinematographer of the dating show Excused comes Zomboobies! It's kind of an American-made homage to the tits & zombies films that Japan has been cranking out for years. Think Big Tits Zombie 3-D, or Rape Zombie: Lust of the Dead, only with a white dude named Mike behind the camera. This isn't scheduled to come out until October, but here's a trailer:

The film is mostly done, but there is a Kickstarter out there if this looks like a movie you want to throw some money towards.

Satan's Blade Coming To Blu-ray From Slasher // Video

I love to see such an obscure title like Satan's Blade getting put out on Blu-ray:

From Slasher // Video
"Just saw the quote for a quantity of 1000 blu-ray...it is literally 6x more expensive that DVD replication. I'm going to take a huge chance & release Satan's Blade on Blu-Ray this summer. This blu will determine whether or not I release any other films on this format in the future //"

First trailer is out, and if you're wondering, yes, Jessica Alba is still keeping her bra on while she strips.

4 New Titles Just Released By Code Red

Here's something we haven't seen for a couple of months, a brand new batch of new releases from Code Red! No horror this time, but Death Machines promises "zombie assassins" and Foxbat promises Henry Silva, so that's good enough for me.

These are all listed as preorders, but each title has this message:

PRODUCT WILL BE SHIPPED WHEN IT ARRIVES AT THE WHEREHOUSE

So it shouldn't be more than a week before Bill has the new titles in stock and starts shipping them out.

Up first Foxbat:

There is an international race to obtain blueprints of a MIG-25 "Foxbat" Soviet fighter plane which has landed in Japan. An undercover U.S. spy Saxon (Henry Silva, JOHNNY COOL, TRAPPED) has managed to take photos of the jet plans with a camera hidden in his left eyeball and now must get the microfilm back to his country. There are competing representatives from many countries trying to do the same thing to, and at one point there is even a super-secret auction of the plans. The KGB is not taking this situation sitting down, and agents are dispatched to destroy the plans and anyone who has them. The search and destroy mission action moves from Tokyo to Hong Kong, as the US agent attempts to contact a man who can arrange for the proper delivery of the microfilm. Inspired by a true story, this action-adventure thriller was talk of Cannes festival in 1977 as it has a very high budget for a independent Hong Kong film. Vonetta McGee (EIGER SANCTION), Rik Van Nutter (THUNDERBALL) and Roy Chiao (GAME OF DEATH) co-stars. Directed by Po-Chih Leong (CABIN BY THE LAKE)!
103min /UNRATED/ 1977/ 1.78.1 (16X9)

SPECIAL FEATURES
- Audio commentary with director/writer Po-Chih Leong
- Brand New transfer from 35mm IP

Synapse just announced May 6th as the release date for their Blu-ray release of Countess Dracula. I guess this makes the old MGM Vampire Lovers/Countess Dracula disc pretty obsolete, doesn't it?

Fangoria.com:

Science Team - From The Man Who Brought You The Taint

I mentioned some time ago that Drew Bolduc, director of The Taint, had started an Indiegogo campaign to help fund his next feature Science Team. Well, it looks like it paid off because the first screening of the film takes place next week in Philadelphia, and a brand new trailer hit last night and you can (and should) take a look at that below:

Head over to the official site for more details. Kill it!!!

Science Team Summary
Chip returns home to find his mother brutally murdered and a sessile space alien living in her house rent free. A somewhat xenophobic and bureaucratic government agency called Science Team is brought in to eliminate the extraterrestrial threat. Drama ensues. People die. Inner and extraterrestrial demons are engaged. Men in pink suits use cool-looking technology. Events culminate in a destructive orgy of violence as people's minds are literally blown out of their heads.

Filmed in Richmond, VA with the help of many talented local filmmakers and filmmakers from around the world, Science Team represents a landmark achievement in independent cinema that pushes micro-budget film-making to heights never before reached.
