Bob Clark we hardly knew you...

Tremendously awful news to report. As some of you know, I'm a huge Black Christmas fan. Well I just heard that it's director Bob Clark (2nd from the left in the picture above) was killed in a car accident early this morning. He was 67. His son Ariel, 22, was with him at the time and he died as well. Here's an article with more details, looks like a drunk driver caused the accident. As usual in this kinda thing the drunken asshole is gonna be perfectly fine, (physically, not so much legally) while the respectable, non-drunk person doesn't make it out alive. This is the bullshit of all bullshits, and I hope the person responsible gets what is coming to him.

If you aren't familiar with the man by name, you'll surely know some of his work. Bob was responsible for several classic films, Black Christmas, A Christmas Story, Porky's, as well as a couple of lesser known (among regular folk, my people are familiar with these as well) films like Deathdream, and Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things. I was just watching Bob on the Black Christmas remake DVD extras yesterday, he seemed like a genuinely sweet guy. It's a terrible shame to see him and his rather young son go, they will be missed.

Shit... This is a very sad news... I am a big fan of "A Christmas Story", "Black Christmas", "Deathdream", "Murder by Decree" and "Tribute"...

Rest in Peace Mr. Clark... :(

  2. Hi Chris. I also have always cherished many Bob Clark films growing up and I had just recently mentioned the reminiscing of the "Porky's" films on my blog. Black Christmas is a great flick and of course we just lost Darren McGavin last year of "A Christmas Story" which I was really bummed about.
Bob Clark also produced the amazing cult-classic Ed Gein film "Deranged" from 1974 and one of my top favorite horror films which I saw in highschool in 1991 with my friend and his mom, "Popcorn".
This is a real shame that he had to tragically die like that and also his young son along with him.

    R.I.P.

    Tragic.

Loved many of his films, especially "Christmas Story" and "Porky's". I remember "Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things" from childhood. Scared the bejeezus outta me. I wonder how this bodes for the remake.

Upon perusing his history on IMDB, I must say..."Rhinestone"!!?? "Turk 182"!!??! A legend has been lost...

I read about this late last night on IMDB and went into denial the split second I saw it. Sure enough, I went back and it said 'Director of A Christmas Story killed in car accident.' It was a rather shocking way to end a night.

This truly sucks. Poor guy and his son at the same time aswell. CHILDREN SHOULD'NT PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS is my all time favorite horror flick next to the first EVIL DEAD film. Hopefully the remake will continue.

Heres wishing the drunken sod who did this a heavy case of karma that leads to some positive changes.

Good luck Mr.Clark and to your son on the new adventure you are both embarking on. You will be remembered here.

Why is it that every time there's a vehicle fatality people say it was a drunk driver? In fact, the charge of "gross vehicular mansalughter" means he was not drunk, otherwise the charge would have been "gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated".
