Phelpster's Custom DVD Covers - Volume 4

Thought I'd share a few more of my custom DVD cover because why not? A few of these aren't 100% finished yet, so if you notice, say, Special Features for the Royal Tenenbaums on the back, try and ignore that for the time being. As usual, click on the images to be taken to the Deviant Art pages. Once there click on the image to see it full sized.

Eraserhead Criterion - I used an awesome Japanese poster for this. As cool as the Jack Nance poster image is, I am a little tired of that seemingly being the only image you can use on an Eraserhead cover.

Harold and Maude Criterion - Another attempt at a Criterion style cover.

The Blob '88 - I know, I know, the Blob is way more red than it is on the cover. Poster Blob was pink, I darkened it as much as I could without it looking too crappy. And yes, I know the tagline on the back is the same as on the front. I'll fix it later on some time.

Spasms - Used the original VHS back, but the front cover was one of those Red Foil covers. Those don't scan very well, so I improvised and used an image from a poster for Stanley, another snake themed horror film.

Before I shut up, I got a pretty cool comment not too long ago from a guy called Coop some of the artists out there might be interested in. I'll just paste what is written on his site:

"I am attempting to amass a large collection of portraits of Frankenstein's Monster in as many different styles and in as many different media as possible as an ongoing art project. The only stipulation is that the size is 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches (standard artist trading card size) and that each card has name, date, title and anything else you care to add on the back.

I welcome cards from both amateur and professional artists.

I will be leaving blank cards with instructions and mailing address in galleries, colleges, art shops, on buses, handing them out in the street and wherever else I can think of.

If you are reading this and would like to get involved, please send a portrait to:

A Patchwork Of Flesh
45 Silversea Drive
Westcliff on Sea
Essex
SS0 9XD
United Kingdom

Each card I receive will be uploaded here to produce an on-line gallery, I then hope to put on an exhibition of these cards in a gallery."

Head over to the site A Patchwork of Flesh and check out some of the submissions.

Hey Phelpster! Luv yr blog! I was recently in Tokyo and saw this poster for an upcoming Lynch retrospective:

Also... Lynch hated that font you used on your Eraserhead cover. Just sayin.

  2. Really? I think it's a pretty decent font, I'd use it in the future if I knew what it was called. I just snatched it from the poster I got the image from.

    RE: Eraserhead font

I think that the font was chosen by a distributor/bootlegger and Lynch didn't have any input on it. He points out his dislike of it in the supplemental booklet that comes with the (weirdly packaged) DVD of the film he put up for sale on his site some years back.

Keep up the great work! Cheers!
