Introducing Space Bastard!

Just wanted to let you all know that my new site is kind of up and running. I'm calling it Space Bastard! for the time being. I say "time being" because there might already be a site called that. I couldn't find a site called that, but when I tried to use spacebastard.blogspot in the address it told me that the address was already taken. But it was an "invite only" site, so I have no idea what the site is actually called. So, if the 4 people who have already visited the new site have bookmarked it already, the new address is:

The site will be full of various awesome images, stuff like old advertisements, high(ish) quality scans of old movie posters, or just whatever else I come across. It'll make more sense as I get more than 2 posts up on there. Anyway, Phelpster says check it out.

Hopefully I can use the name because I'm having a pretty great deal of trouble finding a name that's not already used. Every name I think up is already taken somehow. If Space Bastard is actually taken, I'll change the site back to it's former name of Prepubescent Werewolf. I'll keep the address the same though to avoid any confusion. This new site shouldn't interfere with this one, so don't worry. I'll still be sharing music and comics here. Speaking of comics, look for some new EERIEs here in a little bit.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Episode 904 - Werewolf

Shout Factory released this on DVD, so the links are gone. Think of this as a review of the episode.

Episode 904 - Werewolf. Also know as Wuhrwilf, this 1995 film is absolutely fascinating...ly awful. The most recently made movie they featured on the show, it's also easily one of the worst movies they ever showed. There are more continuity errors than you can even count. The moon is always full in the town of Flagstaff, at least according to the 72 random shots of the moon throughout the movie. The werewolf makeup is completely random, you never know what the hell these people will look like once they change. The psychopathic Yuri's hair changes in every scene. He must go to his hairstylist a lot, you know, when he's not beating people with various parts of lycanthrope skeletons or groping stupid women. Speaking of stupid women, Natalie, the film's heroine/gropee (and by heroine I mean female) has some of the funniest lines Mike and his robot friends have ever sat through due to her thick accent and poor delivery. Poor girl.

In my opinion this is one of the funniest episodes of the entire show. I laughed until I was choking and had to stop the movie on several different occasions. If you nearly die from the hilarity of something, it must be good, right?

In other news, I'm thinking about starting up another site. It won't interfere with what I'm doing here, this will just be a collection of hilariously bad old advertisements (with optional commentary) and movie posters. I know there are several sites out there showcasing old ads and movie posters, but I've always found them to be quite fascinating so I think it'll be fun. I've got a few name ideas I'm kicking around (stuck between Midget Encyclopedia, Everybody Wears Shoes! and The 97-lb. Weakling, all inspired by various ads), but I'll probably try and start it up in the next couple of days, see how it goes. I'll let everyone know when it's up.

Cinematic Titanic Begins...

Well Joel and the original MST3K gang's (plus Mary Jo Pehl) new movie riffing venture Cinematic Titanic has released it's first official DVD, The Oozing Skull. It's actually the 1972 Al Adamson film Brain of Blood, but they were asked to use a different title to avoid confustion, so The Oozing Skull is what they came up with. I'm a big fan of terrible movies, so I'm very excited about seeing them take on some Al Adamson.

The good news is, the trailer looks very funny (despite the odd placement of the silhouettes), but the bad news is that it's a bit more than I thought it would be. It's $16, which isn't too expensive, it's about on track with what the Film Crew DVDs retail for, but The Oozing Skull is going to be a burned DVD shipped in a paper Netflix-ey sleeve. So there will not be a case or a cover or anything other than a label on a disc. I'm working on making a cover for when I order my copy, (the early stage of that cover can be seen here, ignore the credits from Zombie on the back)but there's also a 2-week wait before it will ship right now. I'll definitely be ordering this one, I just hope they can eventually start offering either cases with artwork or lower the price a bit. $16 just seems a bit too steep for just a disc in a sleeve. At least for a poor individual like myself.

Rollercoaster of Death 2: The Final Sacrifice - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

I've got my latest compilation ready, so here it is, Rollercoaster of Death 2: The Final Sacrifice. This is the sequel to Rollercoaster of Death 1, which was a sequel to My Hear Is An Empty Tomb, and Your Name is Engraved Upon the Stone. To be followed by either Larry Clark : Overzealous Chiropractor, or The Bad News Bears Must Die.

Moving on. What are the odds of me finding two "people being killed or about to be killed on a rollercoaster" images to use for covers? Seems unlikely, doesn't it? I don't know, maybe it was really popular to off people on rollercoasters back then. You end up owing money to the wrong people, don't pay up, next thing you know two big dudes are hurling your ass off The Shooting Star at Coney Island. Anyway, this compilation consists of songs featured in various movies, mostly horror related, but a couple of movies not so horror related show up as well (Meatballs 4, I'm looking in your direction). These tracks were either ripped from DVDs by me, or from an actual CD for any that I could find. I had to download an entire 4 CD album to get the Ricchi E Poveri track, like 358 MBs to get a 4 MB song. Madness I tell you. Haute Tension - I don't think there was ever an actual soundtrack released for this one. I've got a couple of the tracks here, New Born by Muse, which plays over the last minute of the movie and then continuing over the end credits. And Sara Perche Ti Amo by Ricchi E Poveri, which the girls sing along with in the beginning of the movie.

My Best Friend is a Vampire - This is a very funny 80's vampire comedy that I somehow hadn't seen until earlier this month. Apart from being highly entertaining it also has some pretty good music in it. I just chose this one Oingo Boingo track for now, but I might try and put together a more complete soundtrack for this one soon.

Cutting Class - Here are two tracks performed by Andy Prieboy, formerly of Wall of Voodoo, For Love and Man Talk. These aren't MP3's, but I can play them with several different programs (Winamp, Windows Media Player) and they sound fine. I didn't want to put different file types together, but I couldn't find MP3s of the album they come from (Upon My Wicked Son).

Teen Witch - I've got two cheesetacular pop songs from the rather girly film Teen Witch. The first one is done by Valentine Leone (who is the neice of director Sergio Leone of all people) and goes by the title of Never Gonna Be The Same Again. The second is Popular Girl, brought to us by Theresa & The Weirz.

The Monster Squad and Friday the 13th VIII - Both of these tracks were on the first compilation. I thought I'd try and rip the Michael Sembello track from The Monster Squad DVD that came out a few months ago to get better quality than the first one I posted from my Laserdisc transfer DVD. The Metroplois track Darkest Side of the Night was about 2 minutes short on the first comp and someone sent me the whole track, so I thought I'd add it on here as well.

Super Xuxa Versus Satan - Ah, Xuxa. Former nudie movie star turned children's television show host. You all know who she is, right? People from Brazil surely do, she's made a movie every year for the past like 20 years and one of her albums is the biggest selling album in Brazil's history. I remember her as the oddly hot woman who I thought was German on a show on channel 20 when I was 13. Well, in 1989 she took on the Lord of Darkness himself (not this one, this one) in this little film. I think the song is called 'Arco-Íris (Rainbow), but I'm not certain. The song is actually quite catchy, despite having some stupendously stupid lyrics. Sure, it's a song for kids, but still.

American Astronaut - The Bill Nayer Show finishes this compilation off with Girl With The Vagina Made of Glass. Kinda reminds me of Carter Burwell's music from Raising Arizona a bit, only weirder.

CREEPY - First and Best in Illustrated Horror

Getting this up here pretty late tonight, but here it is, the latest set of Creepy. This set includes 6 issues, #37, #38, #39, #40, #41, and #42. I wanted to put 8 up, but these ones are rather big and it was nearing 500 MB, so I wanted to keep it below 300. Once again I've tried getting these up on Sharebee, but the site just would not cooperate with me, so RS will have to do. You need all three parts to view the issues, and I want to give credit to the original scanners of these issues.

Vote For More MST3K!

Just a heads up, I've put a poll up on the sidebar, right under the About Me box. You can't miss it, it's the giant blue rectangle that's too close to the left edge of the sidebar. There are 5 episodes to choose from, and I believe you can vote once a day, so get over there and vote. My personal favorite of those is Escape 2000, the sequel to The Bronx Warriors, but that doesn't matter to you since I already have that one, so it's up to you guys. If you're unsure of any of the episodes, check out The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Review for reviews, amazingly enough, of all of the episodes. Be warned though, the guy seems to be a little too harsh on the Mikes.

In "My God! It took you that long to get around to doing that?" news, I've finally started utilizing the Labels feature (seen at the bottom of this, and eventually all posts). I meant to do it forever and just never remembered. Being that I'm nearing 500 total posts it might take a while to put labels on anything, but eventually.

And, while I'm here, can any fellow bloggers clue me in on how to get my banner to link back to the main page of the site? I know, after 17 months of Morgueing I should have the basics figured out, but it's another thing I've been putting off for no good reason, and I seem to be a bit stumped. And before you ask, yes, I'm some kind of idiot.

Hamburger....The Motion Picture

So, I hope everyone had a nice Warren Wednesday. For me, after putting the post up I had to attend a Christmas party at work. You know how sometimes you'll think something is going to be awkward, but then you get there and it's not and you have a great time. This was not one of those times, it was more awkward than I had even imagined. And the weird thing is I'm not even sure what was awkward about it, it just kinda was.

Anyway, I've got something a bit different today. I've posted several episodes of MST3K, which are movie length episodes, but never an actual movie length movie. Until now. This is Hamburger...The Motion Picture. The best film ever made with "Hamburger" and "Motion Picture" in the title. The film (and I use that term loosely here) is quite terrible by traditional standards, but I recommend it to any fan of bad 80's comedies filled with naked women and jokes about fat people and flatulence.

Leigh McCloskey (who you might recognize as Terri's college boyfriend from Just One of the Guys, or from Dario Argento's Inferno) stars as Russell, a huge fan of fornication. Such a huge fan, in fact, that his overall horndoggedness keeps getting him kicked out of college. Of course it's not his fault, women find him irresistible. Who can blame them, I mean just look at him. His parents don't buy this excuse and are fed up with his chronic expulsion and threaten to withhold Russell's inheritance money until he's graduated from some school, any school. Desperate, Russell enrolls in Busterburger University. Buster Burger being a McDonalds-type fast food place, BBU gives people the know how to run their own Buster Burger franchise. That's the basic setup. From there it's just wacky scene after wacky scene of random wackiness.

EERIE - It's Spooktacular!

And, here is the newest set of EERIE. This set includes 8 issues, #35, #36, #37, #38, #39, #40, #41, and #42. I only put up 5 covers, but don't worry, all 8 issues are included. I didn't want to take up too much space on the post, so I just picked my favorites. As always, credit to the original scanners of these issues.

This is the new format I talked about last week. Instead of doing a smaller set of all three comics, I'll be doing a larger set of one comic each week. These 8 issues, totaling roughly 230 MB, are split over 3 parts. You will need all three parts to read the issues. I tried 4 times to get them up on Sharebee, so you guys would have 4 different download options, but they're still having difficulties it seems. So I had to go with Rapidshare. Those of you without a Premium account, download part 3 first to minimize the wait before you can download again.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Episode K09: Phase IV

I've got a fairly obscure little treat today. Or tonight, rather. This is MST3K's take on the 1974 pissed-off ant classic Phase IV. This episode first aired way back in January of 1989 on Minneapolis UHF station KTMA-TV. I wanted to put this episode up since I'm not sure how many people have actually seen one of the KTMA episodes. You can find some of them on torrent sites, but there are never enough seeders for these ones it seems. They're not really as funny as we're used to, but I think it's fascinating seeing how the show started. It's all pretty weird at first. It's got a different opening, one where Joel looks like a roadie for Journey. Dr. Forrester doesn't have his mad scientist hair, the bots are different, it's kinda like a Bizarro version of the show At least after growing so accustomed to the Comedy Central/Sci-Fi episodes.

Hope some of you get a kick out of seeing this. The picture quality isn't great, but it should be pretty watchable. Plus, you get to see a couple UHF channel commercials from 1989, which is kinda neat. Nothing as great as Spatula City, but then not much is. 

Here's a DVD cover for those of you who end up making a DVD with the file. I know, it's not accurate since Tom and Crow don't start to look like this until the first official season, but I think finding high quality images from those episodes would be quite hard. If anyone needs the 4MB 300dpi cover, let me know and I'll put it up somewhere.

Be Scared, Be Very A-scared

I just came across a rather hilarious little link I wanted to share with you guys. It's a slightly disturbing collection of photos featuring children screaming in terror while in the lap of jolly old Saint Nick. Click here for a glimpse of the horror. I can't remember what page it was on, but one of the Santas looks suspiciously like Harold Ramis, see if you can spot him.




I don't think I blame the kid in the second picture for his reaction. I'd probably react the exact same way now, at 26, if I encountered a silver eyeliner wearing, bearded fat guy with a murderous gaze like that. Yikes. Poor little bugger.

Vampirella - Uh, Pick The Winners in the 1979 Warren Awards Spectacular!

As you can see my "use the line from the top of the cover of one of the comics" title method is kinda crapping out lately. EERIE has said "Illustrated Pages of Terror and Suspense" for like the last 20 issues, now Vampirella has given me NOTHING useful for the title. Damn space vampire. Anyway, this set includes issue #81, #83 and #85. I think the next set of Vamps I put up might be the last for now since I've only got about 4 or 5 issues left. I do have a few Spanish issues and a lot of the stuff Harris recently put out, but not many Warren issues left, sadly. I will seek out more though so hopefully I can find more to put up.

CREEPY - Still The First Magazine of Illustrated Horror

Here's the latest set of Creepy. This set contains issue #34, #35, and #36. If you've ever wanted to see a Triceratops whoop a giant space monster's ass (and who hasn't?) then look no further than page 19 of issue #36. Credit again to the original scanners.

I haven't gotten the Vampirella uploaded yet, but look for them later on today. I'm thinking about trying something a bit different next Wednesday. Since I've started putting the Warren stuff up I've put up 3 or 4 issues of the 3 different comics that I put up each time. I'm thinking that starting next week maybe I'll just focus on putting up more issues of one comic each week. For example, next week I could put up about 300 MB (which would be like 8-10 issues) of EERIE, then CREEPY the following week and back and forth like that. I'd split them into parts similar to what they do over at Cosmobells, but I'd put each part up on Sharebee so if you don't have a RS or Mega account you can still get all three parts at once using the several different sites Sharebee uploads to. Does that sound okay with everyone? Anyone object to me doing it this way? I like having a variety up each Wednesday, but I think it'd be easier for me to put them all up that way. Plus I think I'd end up getting them all up faster in the long run doing it that way.

Viva Evel

I'm late posting this, so I'm sure you've heard by now, legendary stunt man Evel Knievel has passed away. He defied death more times over the years than I've gotten my haircut and it's a shame to see him go. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis, he was 69 at the time of his death. I actually just watched Hot Rod the other day, which had Andy Samberg attempting to break one of Knievel's records. Kinda weird timing there.

I think I'll pull my copy of Evel Knievel, the 1971 George Hamilton movie off the shelf in Evel's honor.

The Second Annual International Curtis Armstrong Day

It's November 27th, that means it's once again International Curtis Armstrong Day. Okay, so ICAD is just some stupid thing I made up but it is Curtis "Dudley Dawson" Armstrong's birthday, so if by chance he sees this, Happy Birthday, you hilarious bastard!

To celebrate this made-up holiday, I thought it'd be fun to make a shirt in Curtis' honor. Sadly, CafePress did not feel the same way and informed me that my design was a copyright violation, so it just didn't pan out. But, since the shirt can't be, here's a little look at what I was working on. It's very basic, and the line is way too obvious, but I just wanted to get an idea of what it would've looked like. I intended to think of something more clever later on but I gave up on doing any further work on the design once they killed it.

Happy Thanksgiving From My Family To Yours...

Just stopping by to wish all my regulars and any newcomers a Happy Thanksgiving, and wish any of you with cahones enough to venture out to go shopping on Black Friday the best of luck. Try not to be trampled, or arrested after pummeling someone with a lamp in order to get the last $3 DVD of Airheads (soundtrack to be featured here soon, by the way). I personally will be spending the first half of today enjoying the gluttonous festivities (I have 4 potential dinners to partake in, yikes) then I'll wind down with a double feature of Addams Family Values, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles, the two greatest Thanksgiving-ey movies of all time. Granted there are only like 10 movies that even have anything to do with Thanksgiving, and one of them is the atrocious Home Sweet Home, but still.

If you find yourself with some free time between eating yourself stupid and passing out on the couch afterwards I highly recommend heading over to The Insomnia Video Stash. Fellow blogger Krug+Company (real name Michael Krug), who also runs The Inferno Music Crypt just started the site up and it's loaded with great music videos and movie trailers for you to check out. Be sure to watch the new Rambo promo reel, looks pretty decent and plenty violent, it even includes a Road House style throat rip. High five?

And if you're still looking for something to do I've just gotten a couple of soundtracks re-upped. First, Howard Shore's score from the mind-blowing (zing!) film Scanners, followed by the double whammy Friday the 13th Part 7 and Part 8 soundtrack. The House By the Cemetery/Manhattan Baby score is also back up. And while I'm here, this was a rejected banner I came up with last Thanksgiving. I kinda like it despite not putting it up on the site so I felt it should at least make an appearance here.

Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and other film scores by Michael Perilstein

I just got this one in the mail from the fine folks at Atomic Records in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (buy a shirt!). This is a compilation of Michael Perilstein's work from Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, Deadly Spawn, Muhammad Ali: A Twilight Portrait, Vent Man and The Willies.

For those of you not familiar with Fred Olen Ray's Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, HCH is, what many consider, to be the second best hooker movie of all time (2nd behind Frankenhooker of course). It features Gunnar Hansen as the leader/pimp(?) of a chainsaw worshipping hooker cult and has Jay Richardson (who has been in a whole shit-ton of low rent movies) giving a hilarious performance as wiseass detective Jack Chandler. The film is full of naked women, chainsaw dismemberments and buckets of Ocean Spray blood. And it's pretty damn funny, too. What more could you ask for?

There are ony two tracks from the The Willies but I wanted to talk a bit about it since it's actually a pretty interesting little movie. It was directed by Brian Peck, probably most famous for his portrayal of Scuz in Return of the Living Dead. In his sole directorial effort Peck brought along a few friends from the various ROTLD films. We get James Karen and Clu Gulagher from the first film (and part II for Karen) and Dana Ashbrook from Part II. In addition to those fine individuals, a young Sean Astin is here, on the receiving end of a hilarious Goonies reference early in the movie. And if that wasn't enough, you even get an appearance from Micheal Bower, the legendary Donkeylips from Salute Your Shorts. Granted, in the end The Willies is a pretty mediocre kid's horror film, but it does have a pretty good little cast.

Somehow I have never seen The Deadly Spawn, so I've got nothing to really say about that one. Probably a good thing, I've rambled on for quite a while now anyway. Here's the tracklist. Be sure to read the titles, some of them are quite funny.

This set includes issue #3, #8 and the commemorative edition of issue #1. I have a scan of the actual first issue, but it has a weird purple hue on all of the pages, so I put the commemorative one up instead. It's the same thing, just felt I should explain that while I'm here.

CREEPY – This is the World of the Creepy!

Continuing on with 3 more issues of Creepy. This set includes Issue #19 (Mar. 1968), #20 (May 1968) and #21 (July 1968). While I love the idea of a giant Cyclops frog, my favorite cover here is for issue #19, Mark Twain – Zombie Asskicker. At least, that’s what I’ve been calling it. Enjoy...if you dare! (It's been a while since I've used an 'If you dare!' joke, hasn't it?)

EERIE - More Mind Shattering Illustrated Terror Tales of Creeping Fear and Raging Monsters (you get all that?)

It’s Warren Wednesday here at The Morgue. Today, and any following Wednesdays that I actually remember I will try and post the latest sets of the Warren comics that I regularly post. Of course, the Vampirellas won’t last very long as I only have about 20 issues, but I have enough Creepy and Eerie to last for a while. I’ve been posting these for a while, but I thought it’d be nice to try and be more consistent with posting them and try to have an actual set day each week when I post them. So we’ll start with the next few Eerie issues, this set includes Issue #14 (Apr. 1968), #15 (June 1968), #16 (July 1968) and #18 (Nov. 1968). Sorry, but I don’t currently have issue #17. I will post it if I happen to find it though. My personal favorite cover of this set is issue #14, which I like to call “Revenge of the Skinless Mohawked Coneheads”.
