Brad Fiedel - Fright Night II

Here's the soundtrack from Fright Night's frightful sequel Fright Night II. A film directed by Tommy Lee Wallace of Halloween III and IT fame (the clown movie, not the Information Technology industry). In addition to HIII, he also directed a sequel to another John Carpenter film, the Bon Jovian Tex Mex bloodsucker epic we like to call Vampires Los Muertos.

This unofficial (or "bootleg") soundtrack features several tracks by Brad Fiedel, along with tracks by Wilson Pickett and T-Bone Burnett among others. I was shocked to discover that T-Bone Burnett was not a grizzled old black bluesman. I had never heard one of his songs before and just assumed, I guess. Maybe I thought him and T-Bone Walker were the same guy? But then while T-B Walker could be considered a black bluesman he wasn't really grizzled either. Does one particular industry (in this case, the music industry) need more than one guy called T-Bone? Anyway enough about that, tracklist:

Brad Fiedel - Come To Me (Insturmental Version 1)
Brad Fiedel - Regine's Dance Of Blood
Brad Fiedel - Come To Me (Insturmental Version 2)
Wilson Pickett - In The Midnight Hour
Deborah Holland - Come To Me
Richard Berry - Louie, Louie
Brad Fiedel - Come To Me (Vocals)
T-Bone Burnett - You Could Look It Up

You might've noticed that I've added Netflix to my Affiliates list on the sidebar. So if you happen to be interested in signing up and want to help a Phelpster out, you know what to do. While I'm here, I do want to make it clear that I know nobody likes when a site they visit starts putting ads up, but I'm tanking here so I'm trying to get any additional income I can whatsoever. No one is under any obligation to click them or anything, and I'll try not to push them on anyone. And I will keep them out of the way on the sidebar there and I won't have any page you have to skip to get back to your content, or those IMDB style movie ads that are impossible to close.

well all i was told is that it is the full version of the song however the song itself in the movie is different coz it was edited to do so. as far as i know the version i have is the original full version and i dont know if there is any other version out there. i mean i only recognised it midway through the track. basically the piece you hear in the movie. so if there is another version out there i wouldn't mind grabbing it myself!!

well mate.. i appreciate ya did ya best :)

i think im being a bit thick here lol but the version ive got is the full version and the same as in the movie but its not? i mean out of the version ive got they only use a small part of the song. so in which way is the "other" version different? im intrigued lol

Gulshan said...

LOL!! well if ya see the video carefully.. check the starting of the song... and there is great difference of music too :)

ya can listen to edited (cut version) and that movie.. they are same LOL! but.. still the music is incomplete in cut version..

the original version.. ya posted... is same in lyrics.. some what same in music too.. LOL but its not exactly same as in movie :P

aah well... here check this funny video.. i found of that song.. LOL : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8tBatt6jkU

i think that maybe the version used in the movie is a cut down remixed version of the original. its like the jack mack song from police academy..they mix the opening together with the start of the drums when the original is nothing like that..it just flows better with the movie. i dunno maybe there is a remixed version out there. but the one ive got sounds like an untouched version. which you can clearly tell that it is. think i need to do some digging around now lol

im saying as an example that movies always remix and re-edit songs to fit the movie. so unless they ever get a release the same way they are in the movie then they never will. i can think of lots of songs that get re-edited to "fit" a scene. but like i say the guy i got it from got it from Todd himself. so i dont think there is any other version out there. maybe if you can remix it yourself to sound more like the movie version?

Gulshan said...

YEAH! thanks mate :D

well it can be done surely! well if you know what you're doing lol. but at least its there to be tinkered with! so if you can get it done..you know what to do and post it..coz i'll grab it for sure. anyway im sure the version ive got will make most peeps happy. but if you can re-edit it it would be great.

thanks for the song leeblob. i thought its one of the songs "unavailable", i dont know whats the fuzz about alt-version..yes it sounds --slightly--different in the movie, i assume it has been indeed edited, surely better than "nothing"

First of all thanx 4 the soundtrack and Leebob 4 the missing song.
The difference between the posted version and the movie version is, that the movie version has an extra electric guitar playing along, also the moment Regine starts dancing and spins in the arms of the other vamp, you hear this synthesizer whistle like sound.
I’ve played with the equalizer to hear if the guitar was somewhere in the back, but it’s not, so my guess is that after the song was recorded at least 2 more layers of music where recorded B4 it got a final mix which got cut up 4 the movie. Leebob, if you still have contact with Todd, maybe you can ask him about the extra guitar in the movie version, if that’s him playing (I assume Todd is the musician?)
Once again thanx 4 sharing. (the what I would call in movie terms “workprint version”)

well ppl, i am the guy who got that song 11 years ago from todd hayen himself...

after emailing him he wrote back- heres the letter i got whit the cd....

Dear Michael, I'm glad that you found me through the internet. What a surprise. Like I said, I was surprised to find my master tape of "Dressed in Red". We recorded it some time ag. I can't even remember who the vocalist was, nor the guitarist. It was recorded at a studio in North Hollywood called "Pacifique" and I created all of the tracks (except vocal and guitar) in my studio including the bat sounds (it is a vocal creation of me "eeping" into an Akai sampler and transposing the sample up several octaves--nothing too high tech!)
I hope you enjoy the recording and remember, this is for your personal use only. I don't want to all of sudden see this show up on the top ten. We could then share a jail cell somewhere for copyright infingement. In all seriousness, this is not to be copied in any way.
Enjoy.... Most sincerely, Todd Hayen
Friday, November 20, 1998"

Well, yes, i promised him not to copy it but over the time i realized watching different internet sites about fn how hard it was for fright night II fans to get that song and decided to share it with all you ppl

there's a guy who described it as the holy grail of rare soundtrack songs (http://nineteenthirtynine.net/?p=1084)

to make it clear, that version is his final master version and you must imagine that the postprocess guys added some effects like reverb and different eq's to make it fit more "sexy" in that movie.
I am shure that there is no "other" version or "movie processed" version.

enjoy it and maybe someone can make me happy finding the last one i search for 20 years now "Ross Levinson - Marvel Age" ;)

please let me know

Great. It's still missing 1 tune. Dunno if it's originally put on FN2 OST but it's the song when Regine and her entourage enter the lobby and she smiles to Charley.

I know I'm joining the thread incredibly late but, having just reintroduced myself to the best horror films of the '80s, I have a burning need to find Leslie Lewis' "Dressed in Red". If anyone has a link or a copy to send, please let me know.

Does anyone know what the music is called where Charley is visited by Regine as mist whilst he's asleep? I can't find it & it's so hauntingly beautiful.
