New This Week 8.12.14 - Bigfeet and Brain Slurping Midgets

Arrow Video released their Region B locked release of Motel Hell last year, and now Scream Factory is giving US fans a chance to own the film in High Defnition as well. The Scream Factory release shares the same eye-pleasing transfer as the Arrow release, and while the Scream disc drops one of the previous bonus features (Back to the Backwoods), it keeps all the others and includes three new bonus features exclusive to this release.

You really are what you eat with Farmer Vincent's smoked meat in this creepy horror yarn that "packs a punch that goes way beyond mere terror" (Boxoffice). Vincent's popular products contain a special ingredient that the psychotic farmer and his sister would literally kill to keep a secret! Starring Rory Calhoun (Angel), Nancy Parsons (Porky’s), Nina Axelrod (Time Walker, Cobra) and John Ratzenberger (Cheers), and directed by Kevin Connor (From Beyond The Grave, At The Earth’s Core), this darkly funny flick "just might be your cup of meat" (L.A. Herald Examiner)!

Bonus features:

  • NEW Audio Commentary with director Kevin Connor, moderated by filmmaker Dave Parker
  • NEW It Takes All Kinds: The Making of MOTEL HELL featuring interviews with director Kevin Connor, producers/writers Robert Jaffe and Steven Charles Jaffe and actor Marc Silver
  • NEW Shooting Old School with cinematographer Thomas Del Ruth
  • Another Head on the Chopping Block: An interview with actor Paul Linke
  • From Glamour to Gore: An interview with actress Rosanne Katon
  • Ida, Be Thy Name: A look back at MOTEL HELL’s frightful female protagonist Ida Smith
  • Original Theatrical Trailer

Also from Troma, with a way less legit looking cover, is Bloodsucking Freaks:

BLOODSUCKING FREAKS has earned a world-wide reputation as being a film unlike anything ever seen before in the history of the cinema. It has been held over in certain theatres across the U.S. for over a full year! BLOODSUCKING FREAKS takes you to a bizarre Off-Broardway theatre of the macabre, operated by a deranged impresario. Inside, sadistic entertainments are staged for his audience’s pleasure, including tortures, dismemberments, and other gruesome acts which appear to be faked. When people begin disappearing off the streets of Manhattan, the twisted truth begins to chillingly sink in: these horrifying bloodcurdling acts are not theatrical at all. They are real! You’ll be GROSSED OUT by the unique mĂ©lange of humor and horror as the impresario’s horde of beautiful teenage girls, who are kept in cages and “perform” on command, take over the show and devise a nasty game of their own! You’ll SCREAM YOUR HEAD OFF as the “fun” climaxes in one of the most unforgettable scenes in movie history!

Desperate to escape both a world she never wanted to be part of and the man who turned her into a werewolf, Elena abandons her Pack and takes refuge in a new city, starting over with a hot new romance and a successful photography career. But when bodies turn up in the werewolf sanctuary, Elena is torn between the life she s building and the wild and dangerously unpredictable one she thought she left behind. Based on the Women of the Otherworld novels by #1 New York Times best selling author Kelley Armstrong. Includes all 13 UNCUT episodes featuring footage not seen on American television.

Renee Olstead of The Secret Life of the American Teenager stars as a partying teen whose friends decide to perform an ancient pagan ritual found online called The Midnight Game: Candles are lit. A drop of blood is spilled. Your worst fear is confessed and an entity is summoned. But if the rules are not followed exactly, punishment is promised. Tonight, the game is not being taken seriously. A demonic horror has been unleashed. And now, even daylight cannot stop the nightmares that may destroy them all. Shelby Young (American Horror Story), Guy Wilson (Days Of Our Lives), Valentina de Angelis (Gossip Girl) and Spencer Daniels (Mom) co-star in this eerie chiller inspired by true events.

Bloodsucking Freaks is Coming to Blu-ray 6/4

Troma is set to release Bloodsucking Freaks on Blu-ray June 3rd, and I just came across this sales sheet for the release which features a new HD transfer of the uncut version of the film and some recently unearthed deleted scenes. Also features a commentary with Eli Roth, and new interviews with Eli Roth and Chris Jericho, because why not? Seamus O'Brien and Luis De Jesus are sadly both quite dead, so I guess getting interviews with them might be difficult.

    New This Week 3.18.14

Tons of new Horror stuff out there today.

Craig Thompson's idyllic hunting trip with his two buddies and unstable cousin is wrecked after hearing that his fiancé and best man-to-be have been cavorting behind his back. To make matters worse, his cousin appears on the verge of a murderous rampage while a rapidly-spreading Chupacabra virus is turning locals into the undead. After shooting the ranch owner, drugging the Game Warden, and narrowly escaping an insidious hillbilly gang led by British magnifico, Billy Ray, the boys must not only survive an impending zombie melee but each other. BUCK WILD turns the buddy comedy upside down while tearing zombies inside out in this tongue-in-cheek adventure through South Texas.

After a lapse in her relationship with her lover (Katie Stegeman) forces twenty-something party girl Samantha (Najarra Townsend) to move back in with her overbearing mother (Caroline Williams, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), things seem to be at an all-time low. But the devil-may-care Samantha soon finds escape in a one-night stand with a mysterious man (Simon Barrett, V/H/S) who leaves her hung-over, guilt-ridden and infected. Uncertain of the disease or the man who gave it to her, Samantha attempts to hide it from her loved ones. But she soon realizes that she is not just the victim of an STD, but rather the host of something much more catastrophic, and that she and those around her are in mortal danger. Part zombie film and part body-horror shocker, director Eric England s CONTRACTED is a skin-crawling experience in biological horror.

    Special Features:
    Commentary, Making Of, Trailer

More Pete Walker out today from Kino:

Billed as "An Appalling Amalgam of Carnage and Carnality," Pete Walker's The Flesh and Blood Show is an homage to the blood-splattered, sex-smeared theatre known as the Grand Guignol. Still haunted by an especially tragic production of Othello, a seaside theatre reopens its doors as a groovy musical revue, only to have several of its performers fall victim to the deadly curse.

Newly mastered in HD from the original 35mm negative, this special edition includes a newly-filmed interview with Walker, as well as the legendary 3-D sequence, presented here in both the stereoscopic and anaglyph formats (as well as conventional 2-D).

    Blu-ray Features

    • "Flesh, Blood, and Censorship," an interview with Pete Walker, by Elijah Drenner
    • 3-D sequence (10 min.) in the stereoscopic format (requires 3-D television system)
    • 3-D sequence in the anaglyph format (requires red/blue 3-D glasses, not included)
    • Original theatrical trailer

Throughout his career, director Pete Walker was no stranger to controversy, but his 1974 film Frightmare sparked a firestorm of criticism from the protectors of public morals, who deemed it "despicable" (London Observer), "horrendous" (Evening News), and "a moral obscenity" (Daily Telegraph). In spite of the condemnation--or more likely, because of it--Frightmare has achieved almost legendary status in British horror history.

Sheila Keith stars as a former patient of a mental institution, who has settled down in a remote farmhouse, where she tells fortunes in her spare time. But the kind, maternal exterior conceals a dreadful monster, which the asylum, it seems, was unable to cure.

    Blu-ray Features
    • "For the Sake of Cannibalism," an interview with Pete Walker, by Elijah Drenner
    • Audio commentary by director Pete Walker and DP Peter Jessop, conducted by Steve Chibnall, author of Making Mischief: The Cult Films of Pete Walker
    • "Sheila Keith: A Nice Old Lady?" a profile of the late actress, featuring interviews with her former collaborators
    • Original theatrical trailer

A couple's son and daughter inexplicably reappear after being lost overnight on a desolate, cave-riddled mountainside. Becoming withdrawn and beginning to exhibit strange behavior, their parents quickly assume something sinister happened to them. But after hearing an ominous local legend, the concerned mother and father begin to realize that their children may have fallen prey to something inhuman and that this dark, unstoppable evil has now returned home with them.

"Fly the not-so-friendly skies in this frightening tale of survival at 37,000 feet! On a flight from London to Los Angeles, a wealthy architect (Roy Thinnes) and his wife (Jane Merrow) have rented out a jumbo jet's entire cargo hold to transport a precious artifact -- an altar from an ancient abbey. But they're unaware of its deadly secret. Aboard for the ill-fated trip is William Shatner as a drunken, cynical ex-priest; Buddy Ebsen as an arrogant millionaire; and Chuck Connors as the heroic pilot. Not long after departure, crew and passengers alike face airborne jeopardy and supernatural horror as a demonic entity escapes from the altar, seeking to possess a hapless victim as well as seek revenge on those who would desecrate the sinister deity's ancient ritual site. Fasten your seatbelts . it's going to be a terrifying flight!"

Supposedly coming out today (though the date isn't on the Amazon page) from Anchor Bay is Troma's latest:

Return to Nuke `Em High Vol. 1, directed by cult movie legend Lloyd Kaufman, is a satirical sci-fi comedy event film with themes ripped straight from today's headlines: the contamination and degradation of the world's food supply, rampant bullying, love triumphing over prejudice. Nuke `Em is in the same vein as other classics such as Class of 1984, Rock `n' Roll High School, and Carrie, but seen through the unique vision of Lloyd Kaufman and the Troma Team. Welcome to Tromaville High School where, unfortunately, the glee club has mutated into a vicious gang of Cretins. Chrissy and Lauren, two innocent bloggers, must fight not only the Cretins, mutants and monsters but also the evil Tromorganic Foodstuffs Conglomerate. Will they save Tromaville High School and the world? Find out in this brand-new, unhinged classic from beloved Troma Films!

When Trish (Michele Michaels) decides to invite her high school girls’ basketball teammates over for a slumber party, she has no idea the night is going to end with an unexpected guest (an escaped mental patient and his portable power drill) crashing the party in the cult classic, The Slumber Party Massacre.

Return to Nuke 'Em High Vol. 1 On Blu-ray - For Real This Time

Anchor Bay is set to release Troma's Return to Nuke 'Em High Vol.1 on Blu-ray & DVD on March 24th. This was scheduled to come out from Troma back in August - I had it preordered at Amazon even, but for whatever reason the release got pushed back a bunch of months. Glad to see a new release date, and with Anchor Bay putting it out I think it's pretty safe to say we'll actually be seeing it in March. For now, you can preorder again at Amazon.

Redneck Zombies - Filmed in Entrail-Vision!

Continuing with my current rigorous 1 post every 2 1/2 months schedule, here's the soundtrack from the 1989 Rednexploitation classic (is that a thing?) Redneck Zombies. This comes from the "Tromasterpiece Collection" DVD, which for those you you not averse to stepping into a Wal-Mart can actually find this 2-disc DVD in the $5 bin. It's like $18 on Amazon right now. I had just about finished searching through the hellish nightmare that is the DVD dump bin, when directly in front of me, literally on the bottom of the bin was a copy waiting for me to take it home. Finally, a dump bin victory. I check that thing every time I'm there, I don't think I've ever bought something from there. Although I was tempted by a Different World box set once.

Of course when I go to check out, the suspiciously attractive girl who works at my Wal-Mart rings me up. Normally, that's cool, because she's hot, and who doesn't like having to talk to someone who is hot? But this time I had a kind of creepy combination of items in my cart. Lotion (not for that), a hand mirror (it's amazingly hard to see the back of your head when you cut your own hair) and a DVD copy of Redneck Zombies, complete with extremely gross back cover. That's it. Should've also bought some groceries or a plant or something.

I've actually only seen half of Redneck Zombies, way back in 199...9, I think. I started it, had to go to work halfway through. I did not return to the movie. I recall I kind of hated it, but I'm going to give it another shot in the next few days. Maybe 12 years will change my opinion. Plus I had to buy it because I think it's funny seeing a Troma movie at Wal-Mart. I remember not that long ago Wal-Mart was a store that used to not carry music with explicit lyrics. Now you can go in and buy movies filled with extreme gore and ultraviolence like Hobo With A Shotgun and Redneck Zombies.
