Manchester Morgue and the Jack L. Samuelson Orchestra Present Swinging Sounds of Christmas - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

I kinda regret not getting a Halloween compilation together this year so I wanted to make sure I get a Christmas one done. As you can see I decided to go against my usual dark and gruesome compilation art choices and chose a pervy old Playboy painting instead. I also toned down the ridiculousness of the title (and in turn made it by far the longest title ever) to try and make it match the old compilation records they used to make so many of. Bert Kaempfert had a thousand of these things. I see at least a dozen of his every time I go to the thrift store.

As with all my compilations, I don't have a planned out order in which these songs should be listened to, I just listed them alphabetically because that's how they were in the folder. I don't have enough time to do my usual incessant rambling today, so you get to avoid reading all of that today. Anyway, here's your tracklist, hope you guys enjoy it!

  • Argent - Christmas For The Free
  • Boney M. - Winter Fairy-Tale
  • Danny Elfman - Ice Dance (from Edward Scissorhands) I know Elfman gets ripped on a lot, but his work on Scissorhands is beautiful
  • Dexter Gordon - The Christmas Song
  • Futurama - Xmas Elves (song from the show, not a band called Futurama)
  • Lance J. Holt - I Saw Mommy Kissing Yog-Sothoth- Lovecraft Christmas
  • Mark Snow - Snow For Christmas (from Ernest Saves Christmas)
  • New Kids on the Block - Funky, Funky Christmas
  • Nina - Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown? (from On Her Majesty's Secret Service)
  • Osaka Popstar - The Christmas That Almost Wasn't
  • Paul Revere & The Raiders - Rain, Sleet, Snow
  • Primus - Del Davis Tree Farm
  • Ramonas - Santa's Got A GTO
  • The Business - Step Into Christmas
  • The Vandals - Grandpa's Last Christmas
  • The Vandals - My First Christmas As A Woman (I accidentally added two Vandals songs. Oops.)
  • Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping
  • XTC - Thanks For Christmas
  • Zombina & The Skeletones - Transylvanian Xmas
There's a toy lodged in my brain!

If you are still after more ridiculous Christmas nonsense, my last compilation Robot Sleeperhold: Or Who The Fuck Is Parson Brown? is still up.

Careful With That Axe, You Meanie - A Manchester Morgue Halloween Compilation

I've been too busy to post for a while, but I have spent a bit of time whipping up a new Halloween compilation guaranteed to absolutely frighten the Christ out of you. Or not. Really apart from Fantomas and their rendition of the theme from The Devil Rides Out, there's nothing particularly frightening going on here. I'm really going for a spooky fun-times kind of mood with this one. I didn't want to put anything too obvious, so no Monster Mash will be found here. In fact this is really more of a Halloween/General Horror kind of compilation. Lots of songs about Halloween, but songs about dancing Draculas and Jewish Werewolves as well.

When looking for horror themed music you mostly find two varieties of music, horror punk and any kind of "abilly" music - rockabilly, psychobilly, gothabilly, surfabilly. I actually had more surf/rockabilly stuff on here at first but that stuff REALLY starts to sound the same if you listen to more than 5 songs in a row. I mean there's still plenty of horror punk and a wide variety of abilly tunes here, but I've tried to mix it up a bit more than it was initially.

Any 45 Grave fans will want to download this album as I've included their track Night of the Demons from the remake that just got released on DVD. I ripped it from my copy so the sound isn't as good as I'd like, but I don't think it's been released anywhere yet.

Your tracklist:

  1. Fantomas - The Devil Rides Out
  2. Afi - Halloween
  3. David Bowie - Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)
  4. The Young Ones - Nasty Theme
  5. The Damned - Nasty
  6. 45 Grave - Night of the Demons (ripped from the remake DVD)
  7. The 5,6,7,8s - Highschool Witch
  8. Type O Negative - Halloween in Heaven
  9. Rezurex - Everday is Halloween
  10. Zombina and the Skeletones - Dracula's Tango
  11. Tracy Morgan - Werewolf Barmitzvah
  12. Flock of Seagulls - Nightmares
  13. Zombie Zombie - Halloween Theme
  14. The Meteors - Halloween Scream
  15. The Flaming Lips - Halloween on the Barbary Coast
  16. Frank Zappa - Goblin Girl
  17. Messer Chups - Mobile Coffin
  18. Siouxsie and the Banshees - Halloween
  19. The Young Werewolves - Halloween
  20. Moontrekkers - Night of the Vampire
  21. The Lurking Corpses - When The Blood Flows
  22. Phantom 5 - Graveyard
  23. Bobby Bare Jr. - Rock and Roll Halloween
  24. Coffinshakers - Dark Wings Over Finland
  25. Phantom Rockers - Halloween Night
  26. Ministry - Everyday is Halloween
  27. Dead Vampires - Orgy of the Dead
  28. Vampires of Dartmoore - Tanz Der Vampire
  29. The Spiders - Witchcraft
  30. The Simpsons Halloween Addams Family Theme
  31. The Bee Gees - Haunted House

I feel I need to explain a couple of these, so:

The Bee Gees - Haunted House. Listening to the lyrics I'm thinking this is more of a metaphorical haunting. However the song was listed as "Halloween Mix" and it's actually damn spooky sounding at times I kept it. And surprisingly as a non Bee Gee fan, this song kind of rules. Check it out.

Tracy Morgan as Tracy Jordan - Werewolf Barmitzvah. 30 Rock is one of the fastest paced comedies I've ever seen and surely one of the funniest shows currently on television. This song was featured on the show last year around Halloween and I would've included it, but I don't I've made an actual Halloween comp before, so here it is now.

Theme from The Young Ones Nasty Episode - This is the theme that plays at the beginning of the Young Ones Halloween episode titled Nasty. Kind of an old spooky haunted house movie feel complete with thunder and rain. I followed this with The Damned song Nasty which was performed in the show. Excellent song, one of my favorite Damned songs actually. So much so that I swiped my title from this song.

I was planning on making the cover more Halloweenie with leaves and pumpkins and shit, but while reading Fangoria back issues I stumbled upon this image from a film nobody saw (except for me) called Night Life and I knew a scene of extreme gore was the way to go.

One of my recent compilations got taken down pretty soon after going up and since I've got a few higher profile outfits on here (one of them sold a good 2 or so hundred million albums over the years) so grab this one before it gets kiboshed.

Classic Themes of the Small Screen - Volume 2

Here's Classic Themes of the Small Screen - Volume 2. Another compilation I've thrown together featuring classic and not so classic TV themes throughout the last several decades.

Of the tracks here The Monster Squad, Drak Pack, It's Always Sunny, The Mighty Boosh and The Tick themes were ripped by me, everything else I pulled from my massive 1200 theme file folder so credit to all responsible for the other rips.

Included tracks:

Couple of notes:

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia - Those of you not watching this show should definitely check it out. Unless you've seen it and you didn't like, in that case don't worry about it. I didn't get into the show until earlier this year, but I've since bought all the seasons and I think it's one of the funniest goddamn shows out there. Check it out if you haven't seen it.

The IT Crowd - My current favorite British show - featuring an Irishman. Check this out if you like Garth Marenghi's Darkplace or if you like The IT Crowd check out Garth Marenghi's Darkplace.

That 80's Show - Failed That 70's Show spinoff or continuation, or knock off featuring Sunny's own Dennis Reynolds. Honestly, I kinda liked this show and think the one half season they had is more enjoyable than the pretty dreadful final seasons of That 70's Show. The theme song is actually just "Eighties" by Killing Joke. Sure they only play about 20 seconds of the song on the opening credits of the show, but since I've got Night Time on my hard drive here's the whole song anyway.

The Monster Squad and Drak Pack were essentially the same show, only one was a cartoon. The only difference really (apart from the cartoon thing) is that Monster Squad had monsters that were brought back to life and wanted to rectify all their past evils. Drak Pack featured Scooby Doobian teenagers who were able to morph into a Dracula, a Werewolf and a Frankenstein. For some reason the Drak Pack DVD is only available in Canada, so I had to import that from Canada to get this track.

Classic Themes of the Small Screen - Volume 1

This is the first volume (of potentially many) I've put together dedicated to classic, not-so-classic and occasionally completely unheard of themes from TV shows. I ripped one or two of these tracks myself, but most of them were in a huge pack I stumbled upon on Rapidshare, so thanks to all rippers who were involved.

Or

Even though some of these are not particularly classic (Fish, I'm mainly talking about you here) or old enough to be considered "classic", I chose the title Classic Themes of the Small Screen for several reasons, a) it almost rhymes, 2) it sounds like something someone might title a compilation album, and finally and foremost I couldn't think of anything better. I must've spent a good 9, 10 minutes trying to think of a better title. No avail. One problem, I think, there aren't a lot of good terms for TV that I could work with, we've got Small Screen, Idiot Box, Boob Tube, Goggle Box (that one doesn't even make sense) and that's about it. And let's face it, those aren't good. We need to come up with a new term.

Anyway, at first I was going to break them up into decades, a 60's collection, a 70's collection, 80's collection and so on. This proved to be much more difficult than you'd think. A LOT of shows started in one decade and ended in another. Something like Married w/ Children started in the Eighties, but most of the seasons of the show were in the Nineties. So I've always thought of it as a Nineties show despite knowing the decade it started in. It became too much of a hassle trying to decide which volume to put which show in so instead of wasting too much time worrying about it I decided a more random assortment would be best.

Here are the 37 Themes included in this volume:

Adventures of Pete and Pete (Polaris - Hey Sandy)
Alf
Bottom
Brothers Grunt
Charles in Charge
Chips
Count Duckula
Dragon's Den
Duckman
Family Matters
Father Ted
Fish
Flying Nun
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
Girl From U.N.C.L.E.
Godzilla Cartoon
Green Hornet
Hammer House of Horror
HBO 80's Feature Presentation Theme
Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy
Hong Kong Phooey
The Incredible Hulk
Liquid Television
Manimal
Mannix
Max Headroom
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
My Mother The Car
Night Gallery
Penelope Pitstop
Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)
Red Dwarf
Renta Ghost
Silver Spoons
Smother Brothers Comedy Hour
Too Close For COmfort
Unsolved Mysteries

For me the highlight is the HBO Feature Presentation theme that played before every movie in the 80's. This thing sounds EPIC. Now they just have the intro with the noisy static that turns into the HBO logo. Which is kind of out of date, I haven't seen static on a TV in years, they should change it to an Invalid Input screen or something at least. Or just bring back this EPIC Feature Presentation theme.

Maybe the next volume will be a bit more organized, but I thought I'd test this out first and see how much interest there was. I ended up with about 1,200 themes from the forum I found them on so if there's one you'd like to see on Volume 2 let me know, there's a good chance I have it.

Mummy Came In My Room - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

Here's my latest compilation featuring 19 songs that appeared in various genre films. Some obscure, some not so obscure. I call it Mummy Came In My Room. Thanks to Eugene for inspiring the title.

I've made two covers for this one. The first, using a lovely piece of artwork from the film Wrestling Women vs. The Aztec Mummy. The second, a racy "Adults Only" version with topless hooters and a boogieing down mummy.

The tracklist (Artist - Song Title - Film in which song appears)

  • Mike Armstrong - House of the Devil theme - House of the Devil
  • Greg Stone - Here in the Darkness - Sorority Babes In The Slimeball Bowl-a-Rama
  • I'm A Monster - Rock 'n' Roll Frankenstein
  • Lectro Shock - Rock 'n' Roll Frankenstein
  • Carol Browning - Edge of Forever - The Forest
  • Cocco - Lay Down My Arms - Kairo (Pulse)
  • Keith Mansfield - Summers Coming - Rabid
  • The Yellow Monkey - Girlie - Otogiriso aka St. John's Wort
  • Gloria Lee - Falling Into You - American Zombie
  • I'm a Zombie Too - American Zombie
  • Lisa Rypdal - En Spennende Dag For Josefine - Rovdyr (Manhunt)
  • Mark Blankfield - Hyde's Got Nothing To Hide - Jekyll & Hyde...Together Again
  • World Sinks Except Japan - End Credits (not sure of the title or artist)
  • Mama Don't Cry - Your Smile - Marronnier
  • Hillbilly Hellcats - Dead Man's Party - Dead & Breakfast
  • Suzanne Solari - Saviour - Roller Blade Warriors & Roller Blade
  • Tomoyasu Hotei - Save Me - Samurai Fiction
  • Harry Manfredini & John Carridi - Slaughter High Theme - Slaughter High
  • Kou Nakagawa - High School Murder Case - Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl

Some notes on most of the tracks:

Mike Armstrong - Opening Theme from House of the Devil. For some reason this excellent Cars-inspired track (performed by Ti West's friend Mike Armstrong) is not on the soundtrack release. I've ripped it from the DVD, so this should be one of the few places to find it online.

I'm a Monster & Lectro Shock from Rock 'n' Roll Frankenstein. I can't remember the name of the band so I'll just call them Frank & The Steins until someone corrects me.

Carol Browning - Edge of Forever from The Forest. Plays over the end credits of Donald "The Love Butcher" Jones' 1982 cannibal slasher film The Forest.

Cocco - Lay Down My Arms from Kairo. This is an alarmingly upbeat song to end such a downbeat movie with.

Keith Mansfield - Summer's Coming from David Cronenberg's Rabid. Credit to this track goes out to Franco from the HorrorDVDs forum. He found it and posted in online, it's an excellent track that I really wanted to include on this compilation.

Gloria Lee - Falling Into You from American Zombie. Falling Into You doesn't really have anything to do with the movie, I'm thinking Gloria Lee is related to director Grace Lee.

I'm A zombie Too also from American Zombie. It turns out zombies are just a bunch of damn hippies. There are two versions of I'm A Zombie Too in the film. First is an acoustic hippy version during Live Dead and there is also a hot-rockin' version at the beginning of the end credits. Out of boredom, I just roughly edited the two versions together.

Lisa Rypdal - En Spennende Dag For Josefine from Norwegian slasher Rovdyr (Manhunt). Known as Naked: Booby Trap in Japan.

The World Sinks Except Japan - The credits are entirely in Japanese for this one so I'm not sure the artist/title. Any help on this will be appreciated.

Suzanne Solari - Saviour from Roller Blade Warriors. I ripped this from Roller Blade Warriors, but it looks like it's also in another movie called Roller Blade. Somehow they decided this is the official anthem for any Roller Blade themed post-apocalyptic films. Warning on this one, ripped from an .avi file. Not the ideal source for ripping, obviously, but I'm pretty sure Suzanne never put out an album.

Hillbilly Hellcats - Dead Man's Party from Dead & Breakfast. While is shares a title with Oingo Boingo track this is not a cover of that song. Note: this track is tagged as being from Dead & Buried. Ignore that, I wasn't paying attention when I typed that.

Kou Nakagawa - High School Murder Case - Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl. I don't know what's more offensive in this film, the Wrist-Cutters Club or the extreme Ganguro girls with giant lips and bones in their hair.

Harry Manfredini & John Carridi - Theme from Slaughter High. I love Harry, I do, but this song really kind of gives me a headache. I'm sure some of you will enjoy it though.

Mall Madness Massacre - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

Well, I did miss another day of work, which means I've been more or less trapped in my house for 4 days now - I think I'm starting to see where Jack Torrance was coming from. I've yet to attack my annoying wife with an axe, nor do I have an annoying wife or intend to attack this nonexistent person with an axe, but being stuck in my house with nowhere to go and no way to go there is definitely starting to get to me. It's boring and depressing here, and to make matters worse I've had Dee D. Jackson's Meteor Man (featured on the last compilation) stuck in my head for about 3 days. Who would've thought Space Disco could be so infectious? Damn you Cosmobells for introducing me to Mrs. DD Jackson's work.

Anyway, I did finish another of the several compilations I've been working on. I like to call this one Mall Madness Massacre. This cover is a bit cheap and sloppy - just like I like my women (zing). I used some teens from a poster from the movie The Outing, real photo of a mall and Jason's knife from a Friday the 13th part VIII poster with a shadow that is a bit too big for where it is in relation to the teens from The Outing poster. But, for some reason, I like it and I think it kinda works, so I'm just sticking with it.

This compilation is full of songs that are featured in a movie. Usually songs that played over opening/closing credits, but there are also some musical numbers from some award winning actresses thrown in for good measure. The layout for the tracklist is Artist (if I know who it is) - Song - Movie song was featured in.

Gene Hobson - Opening Theme from Student Bodies
Jon Mikl Thor - Walkin' In A Graveyard - Graveyard
Michael Sambello - Monster Squad - The Monster Squad
Random Task Collective - Barricade - Wasting Away
Demi Moore - Don't Look Back - One Crazy Summer
Sally Dworsky - I'll Find My Way - The Wizard
Honeymoon Suite - What Does It Take - One Crazy Summer
Magneto Jones & The Extremes - Busterburger Jingle - Hamburger: The Motion Picture
Sukeban Deka - End Credits (Not sure who does this one)
Vixen - Runnin' - Hardbodies
Annie Ross and the Renzettes - Personality - Basket Case III
Bobby Vinton - Sealed With A Kiss - All The Boys Love Mandy Lane
Jason Scheff - Life Sux 4 Me - Netherbeast Incorporated
Jennifer Connelly - Sway - Dark City Director's Cut
Jennifer Connelly - The Night Has 1,000 Eyes - Dark City Director's Cut
Tony Darrow - We Do Things My Way - Street Trash
Depeche Mode - Pimpf - Mahakaal
Executvie Koalo - End Credits (not sure who does this either)
Phoebe Cates - How Do I Let You Know - Private School
Vantage Point - Slaughterhouse - Walk Through The Door
Slaughterhouse - End Credits

As usual, some notes (in no particular order):

Gene Hobson - Opening Theme from Student Bodies

While I feel that Student Bodies failed pretty astoundingly as a comedy (horsehead book ends, that's funny?), this opening score piece is quite spooky and effective.

Jon Mikl Thor - Walkin' In A Graveyard from Graveyard

It turns out Jon Mikl Thor actually really has an excellent voice that would've made him fit right in with a deathrock band circa 1984 - if he wasn't so busy bodybuilding and exploding rubber hot water bottles with his mouth. Interesting fact: J.M. Thor has acted in 7 movies, 3 of which have the word Nightmare in the title.

Random Task Collective - Barricade from Wasting Away

Wasting Away is an unusual zombie comedy from 2007. It's been released on DVD in the UK, I recommend checking it out. This song was ripped from the end credits so it's a bit shorter than the real version, but it's still most of the way complete. It's available to download at iTunes, but being a Zune owner I don't want to download iTunes just to buy a song. This song is catchy as all hell, probably my favorite on this collection. This thing is Dee D. Jackson catchy.

Joseph Garrison (?) - Theme + Vantage Point - Walk Through The Door from Slaughterhouse

I've got a couple from Slaughterhouse here. Starting with the opening theme music. How do you lose half of your audience right off the bat? Play wacky big band music over real footage of pigs being butchered in a slaughterhouse. I'm not a vegetarian, I eat meat 3-5 times a day and have no plans of stopping, but even I found this opening scene to be in poor taste. The next song, by a group called Vantage Point is actually rather good, even though this version is the short version I ripped from the end credits. I'm not familiar with the band, but it looks like they had an entire album worth of tracks listed in the credits. If anyone has this album please share or let me know where to find it.

Depeche Mode - Pimpf from Mahakaal

This was kind of an Indian take on Freddy Krueger and the Elm Street films. Being Indian, this means the movie is 2 1/2 hours long, and has several full length musical numbers for no reason. This Depeche Mode song seems like a weird song to have in an Indian movies, it's in there because the makers of Mahakaal didn't actually have permission to include this song in the film.

Michael Sambello - Monster Squad from...well, you know
I've put Rock Until You Drop on two compilations, but I always overlook this track when I watch the move. Not sure why. It's not as fun as Rock Until You Drop, but I suck for not including this one like 5 compilations ago. If you ever wondered what King Tut era Steve Martin would sound like rapping about killing monsters, I think it'd sound a little something like this.

Jennifer Connelly - Sway + The Night Has 1,000 Eyes from Dark City

Jennifer originally performed the songs herself, but I guess producers wanted someone with a stronger voice, so they got Anita Kelsey instead. In the director's cut, Alex Proyas put Jennifer's vocals back in the film, these two short tracks are ripped from that DVD. Anita has the better voice - being a professional singer and all - but I do like Jennifer's take as well.

Demi More - Don't Look Back (Not a Boston cover) from One Crazy Summer

Apparently, pretty much any actress can sing, at least a little bit. One film studio that currently seems to really know this is Disney. It seems that any girl who has ever appeared in one of their shows gets to put out an album. Now, to prevent myself from sounding too much like a creepy weirdo I should say that I don't voluntarily watch anything Disney related, but having two little girls live in the same house as you, you're going to see a lot of Disney if you like it or not. And every one of those Disney girls has an album. Even the unpopular ones. I'm sure even Harper has one coming right around the corner.

Honeymoon Suite - What Does It Take also from One Crazy Summer

And another from the 2nd best movie ever made in which a man named Bobcat runs around in a Godzilla suit, terrifying Japanese people with his Kaiju-ian antics.

Tony Darrow - We Do Things My Way - Street Trash

This is one raunchy lounge tune, I wouldn't listen to it around anyone averse to fuck-bombs. It's also one of the rare songs where the singer "dies" during the song. The Guan-di song from My Name Is Bruce is another that comes to mind.

Vixen - Runnin' from Hardbodies
I actually found this and a couple others on a blog called Hard Rock/AOR Heaven. They have an excellent 13 volume collection of rare and hard to find music. Head on over, but plan to do some downloading.

Phoebe Cates - How Do I Let You Know from Private School

Credit to Hard Rock/AOR Heaven for this one too. I wanted to include this since I have the Demi Moore and Jennifer Connelly tracks on here as well.

Magneto Jones & The Extremes - Busterburger Jingle

I meant to put this on my very first compilation with companion piece Hamburgers For America, but I just completely forgot about it until revisiting the movie a few weeks back.

Jason Scheff - Life Sux 4 Me - Netherbeast Incorporated
This is a rather funny vampire film with Dave Foley and Judd Nelson. Check it out, the theory on why the Tortoise beat the Hare is pretty amazing.

Bobby Vinton - Sealed With A Kiss from All The Boys Love Mandy Lane

This 2006 film STILL has not officially been released in the United States - the very United States in which it was filmed. Of course any horror fan who was curious found a way to see the film way back in 2007-2008, but still, why sit on a movie for years before releasing it? While it's not a mindbending cinematic experience, Mandy Lane is more watchable than a lot of stuff that's been released theatrically in the past 3 years. At least throw the thing out on DVD advertising "featuring an actress who was in Zombieland for 120 seconds!" They'd surely make some money off of it if for no other reason than Amber Heard is really, really, not ugly. You'd be amazed how many people will watch something if they think an actor or actress in it is attractive. I've been guilty of this myself numerous times and we all know what a sophisticated, high-brow individual I am.

Annie Ross and the Renzettes - Personality from Basket Case III

How do you make a Henenlotter film weirder? Put in a musical number with Annie Ross of jazz vocal group Lambert, Hendricks & Ross (she was Ross) and a bunch of deformed mutants.

Narcoleptic Sorcerer in the House of Eventual Doom - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

Today, thanks to a weird snow/ice storm I got to miss going to work. For most people, this is a good thing. Not me. Since I need to buy a new car very soon, missing a day of work is kind of a nuisance. I personally hate missing work due to bad weather because it combines two things I hate the most, losing money and calling a place to get out of doing something.

Oh well, the good news was that I was able to finish up a compilation I've been working on. I call this one Narcoleptic Sorcerer in the House of Eventual Doom. Because this dude is clearly asleep, and this lady - while her demise is surely imminent - will probably have a bit of time to kill before her offing. This kind of creative stupidity is the result of reading Famous Monsters of Filmland while watching Monster Chiller Horror Theatre on SCTV.

This compilation features songs that share a name with a movie (like The Thing With No Heads, Novelty Cigarette Lighter of Doom and Werewolf in Unnecessarily Short Gym Shorts before it). The variety on display here will probably give most people a headache. Jumping from Zao to early Ministry to Genghis Tron to Dee D. Jackson all in the span of about 80 minutes can't be good for you brain. But, if you're like me and you are on the verge of dementia, this should be a fun listen.

Looking at the forecast for Sunday and Wednesday I'll probably have those days off also (crap!), so I should be able to finish up a couple others I'm working on, tentatively titled Mall Madness Massacre and Mummy Came In My Room.

Ministry - Revenge
The Lillingtons - Caveman
God is an Astronaut - Zodiac
Zao - Autopsy
Omega Lithium - Stigmata
Abgott - Epitaph
Within Temptation - The Howling
The Birthday Massacre - To Die For
Glös - Sunshine
Artesia - Invitation
Constants - The Nameless
Ryashon - The Warrior
Agents of Oblivion - Dead Girl (Acid Bath Cover)
Los Straitjackets - Rockula (movie here, music here
Amorphis - Alone
Genghis Tron - Badlands
The Damned - She
The Ghastly Ones - Werewolves on Wheels
The Dead Elvi - Gothica
Scientist - Ghost of Frankenstein
Dee D. Jackson - Meteor Man

Couple of notes:

The Birthday Massacre - To Die For - Shares a title with several movies, the Nicole Kidman movie from 1995, the vampire movie that was in Fangoria a lot in the early 90s that nobody has actually seen, and even some kind of homosexual ghost film. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I know I put The Birthday Massacre on a lot of these things, I own a bit of stock in the band.

Constants - The Nameless - Okay, so the actual title is Los sin nombre, but it still counts. If you like this one, Constants album The Foundation, The Machine, The Ascension is actually available for free from Gimmesound . It's pretty excellent, worth the minute to sign up for an account there. Also check out Junius from the same label.

The Dead Elvi - Gothica - I just remembered the movie title is spelled Gothika, but I've already gotten it uploaded, and it's a rather good song, so I'm going to just let the 'c' for 'k' mix up stand.

Abgott - Epitaph - Shares a title with the 1987 Joseph Merhi film. Merhi has directed and produced a shit-ton of low rent schlock like Fresh Kill, The Newlydeads and Magic Kid.

Dee D. Jackson - Meteor Man - Jackson's song came out in 1978, Robert Townsend's film came out in 1993, I think Robbie owes someone some money.

Genghis Tron - Badlands - These guys are insane, with some of the most menacing vocals I've ever heard - from a man named Mookie no less. Sadly being a brief instrumental piece this song doesn't show off their full badassery, be sure to check out their album Board Up The House. For example (really cool video, too):

Robot Sleeperhold Or: Who The Fuck Is Parson Brown? - A Christmas Album

Christmas music sucks. Oh, I'm sure most people out there would disagree with me. I'm sure there are people out there right now, genuinely enjoying the overwhelming onslaught of nauseating yuletide melodies pummeling them over the head during every waking moment between October 26th and December 25th.

Not me. Christmas music doesn't fill me with joy. It fills me with dread. Dread, coupled with the desire to hit someone in the skull with a stool. Or a toilet lid. Or a blender. Or any kind of household property I might be able to lift and swing towards someone, really.

So I've putting together my own demented brand of Christmas compilation featuring some Christmas hits, some Christmas misses and even a few tracks that have nothing to do with Christmas, but do have the word Christmas in the title. This album is for those of you who feel that hearing Blue Christmas one more time - just once - just might be the thing that finally sends you over the edge.

I call it Robot Sleeperhold Or: Who The Fuck is Parson Brown? Because seriously, who is Parson Brown?

I went a little overboard here, there's about 30 songs total and it clocks in at around 1:49:42. Grab this one while you can, it might not stay up too long.
  1. King Diamond - No Presents For Christmas
  2. Count Floyd & The Pink Floyds - Reggae Christmas Eve in Transylvania
  3. Shonen Knife - Space Christmas
  4. Halford - What Child Is This
  5. Bootsy Collins - Dis Christmiss
  6. August Burns Red - Carol of the Bells
  7. Bobby 'Boris' Pickett - Monster's Holiday
  8. Wham! - Last Christmas
  9. Jet Boys - Merry Christmas, Fuck You
  10. Run DMC - Christmas in Hollis
  11. Los Straitjackets - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
  12. Manic Street Preachers - Christmas Ghost

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Werewolves - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

It's been brought to my attention that my last compilation Young Monsters In Love violated the DMA, so that post has been removed (not by me). So apologies for anyone who didn't have a chance to download it, but I'm just going to keep it down to stay out of trouble.

Hopefully this new compilation I'm posting today makes it for more than 2 weeks. This compilation is comprised of rare, or unreleased music featured in films (like the first few compilations I did). I call it Rock 'em Sock 'em Werewolves. This is kind of a B-Side to the last compilation like this called Vampire Tickle Fight, as I ripped/gathered a lot of the songs at the same time I was working on that one.

The title was inspired by a discussion with a friend over why they didn't have any other Rock 'em Sock 'ems. Why only robots? The conversation actually went on for several minutes, this compilation could've been called a number of things - Rock 'em Sock 'em Frankensteins, Rock 'em Sock 'em C.H.U.D.s, Rock 'em Sock 'em Golems - but I had just downloaded some Werewolf by Nights from The Comic Vault and there was an issue with Werewolf by Night fighting some other werewolf, so Werewolves it is.

The colors of the cover were actually a bit garish, a purple werewolf on blue background was a bit of an eyesore. So I tried something a little different for this one. Still a bit of an eyesore, but I think it's decent enough. I know, it's a bit dark, but I'll lighten it up later on.

The audio quality on these varies wildly, but on most of these it's not my fault.

The tracklist:
  1. Leif Garret & Fat White Guy - Cheerleader Rap from Cheerleader Camp
  2. Peter Yellen and The Breakers - Fall Break from The Mutilator
  3. Toxic Avenger Part II theme
  4. Dan Skye - Toxic Avenger Part III theme
  5. Calamari Wrestler - DVD music video
  6. Cynthia Zirow - Into The Black from Ozone aka Street Zombies.
  7. Billy Barber - Beat of the Heart from Scared Stiff
  8. Bill Marx/Marilynn Lovell - Torment from Scream Blacula Scream
  9. Cry No More - Recipe for Romance from Bloody New Year
  10. Lisa Edwards - Playing With Fire from Dead-End Drive-In
  11. Dirt Bike Annie - Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things from Die and Let Live
  12. Karaoke Terror End Credits
  13. Drunk Horse - National Lust from Murder Party
  14. Didus & The Fabulous Mascarenes - So and So from There's Nothing Out There
  15. Maestro Fresh Wes - She's Gonna Freak You from Prom Night III
  16. Kit Fuller - Love Me Deadly from Love Me Deadly
  17. Shandi - Living on the Edge from Making the Grade
  18. Shayna Zaid - Among the Dead from Flight of the Living Dead
  19. Marilynn Lovell - My Dream from Terror at Red Wolf Inn
  20. Doug Riley - Cannibal Girls End Credit Theme
  21. L.A. Posse - Lost in Time from Waxwork II
  22. Ted "Rhyme Throwah" Raimi - Bustin' Brains from The Man With The Screaming Brain
  23. The McCain Brothers - The Legend of Guandi from My Name is Bruce

And now, some notes on select tracks:

Leif Garret & Fat White Guy - Cheerleader Rap from Cheerleader Camp. What's better than a fat white guy rapping? Leif Garret rapping with said fat white guy.

Peter Yellen and The Breakers - Fall Break from The Mutilator.

Toxic Avenger Part II theme - Can't find out who plays this one, so I'll just have to assume the band was comprised of: Toxie on Vocals and rythym guitar, Lloyd Kaufman on Lead Guitar, Ike & Addley sharing Bass duties, and The Fat Guy Who Went Nutzoid in Fat Guy Goes Nutzoid on Drums.

Dan Skye - Toxic Avenger Part III theme

Calamari Wrestler - Not sure the artist or song title here. It's listed as "Music Video" on the DVD. And if you go to the Pathfinder DVD site, they don't even mention there being a "music video" on the DVD at all.

Dirt Bike Annie - Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things from Die and Let Live. Zombie comedy/ Sandlot homage. Seriously, there are at least half a dozen references to the movie The Sandlot. Characters named Bennie and Squints, PT Flyers scene, "You're killing me Smalls!"...that's only 3 but I haven't seen this is like 2 years, so I'm a bit unsure on the rest.

Karaoke Terror End Credits. The credits to this were surprisingly Japanese. What this means is that I have no idea what this song is called or who is singing it. I'm hoping someone out there can fill me in.

Drunk Horse - National Lust from Murder Party. On the last comp I posted a 2Tite song from Murder Party, but I'm not as big on this one so I left it for this one. Too much "Whoo, whoo" for me, reminds me of Forty Licks. I hate that song.

Didus & The Fabulous Mascarenes - So and So from There's Nothing Out There. Best band name ever? These guys sound like what I think a band of schizophrenic clowns would sound like.

Maestro Fresh Wes - She's Gonna Freak You from Prom Night III. I have no idea why, but this was my favorite Prom Night. Not the best - in fact, probably the worst overall - but still the most entertaining for me. For the curious:
Prom Night III
Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2
Prom Night IV
Prom Night

Kit Fuller - Love Me Deadly from Love Me Deadly. Hands down the creepiest song I've posted in some time. It's a ballad, really, but something about it is just eerie. Maybe it's the light necrophilia taking place while this is playing in the film.

Shandi - Living on the Edge from Making the Grade. This was a failed attempt at starting up a Judd Nelson trilogy. Turns out you need a hit on your hands before you can make a second and third movie to complete a trilogy.

Shayna Zaid - Among the Dead from Flight of the Living Dead. The song is only as long as the opening credits to the movie, a more complete version of the song was never recorded. This is actully nothing like any of her other music at all. She plays a kind of...ugh...Indie Folk in her day to day. Blah.

Marilynn Lovell - My Dream from Terror at Red Wolf Inn. This is actually Marilynn's second item on this compilation. She wrote the music for Torment from Scream Blacula Scream.

Doug Riley - Cannibal Girls End Credit Theme. This is a "lost" Canadian film starring Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin, and directed by this guy called Ivan Reitman. I don't know him, I think his son directed Juno or something. This one probably has the roughest quality of the bunch, being that it was ripped from a super old VHS tape.

Ted "Rhyme Throwah" Raimi - Bustin' Brains from The Man With The Screaming Brain. For anyone wondering what Ted "Theodore" Raimi would sound like rapping with a goofy accent, wonder no more.

The McCain Brothers - The Legend of Guandi from My Name is Bruce. I'm in the minority as I really enjoyed Bruce's performance as Bruce in Bruce. Sure it was on the corny side, and it could've been more gruesome, and a pair of unclothed hooters could've made an appearance, but I like it just the way it is.

Young Monsters in Love - A Thanksgiving-ey Manchester Morgue Compilation

Okay, so there's actually nothing "Thanksgiving-ey" about this compilation at all because, well, nobody has ever written a song about Thanksgiving. Look it up, nobody. Unless you count Pugsley's Eat Us, or Happy Turkey Day from Addams Family Values (music and lyrics by Gary Granger) there aren't really any songs about Thanksgiving. In fact, I think Labor Day has more songs, and that's not even a real day.

Since my I Got Erection and Creatures of the Night cover compilations were fairly well received, here's another collection of cover songs. Some covers you'll love, some you'll hate, but that's part of the fun of listening to bands do cover songs, isn't it?

I've found some pretty standard covers for this collection - like Laos' More Than a Feeling - but I've also uncovered a few very bizarre choices. Veruca Salt taking on a Sex Pistols track? Paradise Lost doing Small Town Boy? And, the most bizarre part on that one, it actually works quite well (up until the "cry boy, cry" part, that bit sounds awkward).

Given the art I've used, this would've been more ideal artwork for a Valentine's Day compilation, but I'll just have to come up with something else when the time comes. This cover does have me wondering one thing - is it still necrophilia if both parties are technically dead?

Between the Buried and Me - Kickstart My Heart (Motley Crue)
Hellsongs - Seasons in the Abyss (Slayer)
Blutengel - Stay (Shakespeare's Sister)
Bat For Lashes - A Forest (The Cure)
Chromatics - Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush)
Ether Aura - Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me (The Smiths)
Paradise Lost - Small Town Boy (Bronski Beat)
Even Vast - Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division)
Laos - More Than A Feeling (Boston)
Ghostlines - Brave New World (Iron Maiden)
Epica - Replica (Fear Factory)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sheena is a Punk Rocker (Ramones)
Nightwish - Where Were You Last Night (Ankie Bagger)
Tapping The Vein - Cornflake Girl (Tori Amos)
Iced Earth - Transylvania (Iron Maiden)
The Birthday Massacre - I Think We're Alone Now (Tiffany)
Theatre of Tragedy - You Keep Me Hanging On (The Supremes/Kim Wilde)
Angelzoom - Crawling (Linkin Park)
Veruca Salt - Bodies (Sex Pistols)
45 Grave - Riboflavin Flavored, Non-Carbonated, Poly-Unsaturated Blood (Don Hinson And The Rigamorticians)

Vampire Tickle Fight - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

Time for another Morgue compilation. I call this one Vampire Tickle Fight. Why? Because. That's why! No, I just really felt the image of Drac and a victim to be looked more like they were engaged in a rather heavy bout of tickle fighting given that both opponents fingers are in each others armpit region - a popular tickling spot. I don't know. Either that or some kind of Amateur Vampire Chiropractory. Dammit, I think I like that better. Balls. Oh well, that doesn't really matter, the music included on the compilation is what's important. And I think you'll all enjoy at least a few of the obscure (and the some not at all obscure) songs on this comp. The tracks that make up this compilation are all songs featured in films, mostly of the horror variety, but a few 80s comedy songs are here as well.

Keep in mind, these tracks all come from a wide variety of sources - CD, LP, DVD, VHS, and maybe even LD rips - so the sound quality is going to vary from track to track. They should all be quite listenable, the only real problem is that some tracks are a lot quieter than others. I ripped some of these myself, found some on torrent sites and random Google searching. Credit and thanks go out to the people responsible for putting the others online.

The tracklist: Artist - Song Title - Film Song Is Featured In

  1. Warning
  2. Turbonegro - All My Friends Are Dead - Cold Prey
  3. Van Stephenson - No Secrets - Secret Admirer
  4. Alan Jordan - Mind To Mind - Scanners II: The New Order
  5. 2 Tite - Full Moon - Murder Party
  6. Terrence Mann - Power of the Night - Critters
  7. Shari Belafonte - Get Dead - Midnight Hour
  8. The Originals - Supernatural Voodoo Woman - Sugar Hill
  9. Paul Sabu - Cassie's Song - Hard Rock Zombies
  10. Gene Evaro - Oh What A Love, Oh What A Life - Mirror Mirror
  11. Shandi - Living on the Edge - Making The Grade
  12. Eric Troyer - This is the Love - The Night Visitor
  13. Unknown Artist - Zaniac - Freak Out
  14. Nuclear Assault - Something Wicked - Warlock II: The Armageddon
  15. The Fontanelles - Kiss Kicker 99 - Hobgoblins
  16. Crispin Clover - Ben - Willard
  17. Ricky Nelson - Hello Mary Lou - Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II
  18. Showaddywaddy - Under The Moon of Love - Lesbian Vampire Killers
  19. Calamari Safari - Theme from Poultrygeist - Poultrygeist
  20. Detroit's Most Wanted - The Reynold's Rap - Lunatics: A Love Story

And, I've gone through and made little notes on each track below:

Turbonegro - All My Friends Are Dead from Fritt Vilt aka Cold Prey.

Van Stephenson - No Secrets from Secret Admirer. There is a soundtrack to this, but I must be losing my touch because I was unable to track it down. However, this was my favorite track from the movie, so I've included it.

Alan Jordan - Mind to Mind from Scanners 2. I had a lower quality rip of this, so I did this one myself using my R2 Scanners 2 DVD. Great song actually, check it out.

2 Tite - Full Moon from Murder Party. Not my kind of music at all, but dammit all this is a fantastic track from a rather hilarious movie.

Terrence Mann - Power of the Night from Critters. This one is pretty poor quality, but it's nearly impossible to find the full length version, so this is as good as it gets for now. I was surprised it wasn't played over the end credits, that was a hugely popular practice in the 1980s.

Shari Belafonte - Get Dead from Midnight Hour. Currently one of the most valuable Out of Print DVDs around. Starting at $129 on eBay, all the way up to $712 on Amazon. A message to the Amazon seller asking the price of a fully funtioning 1974 Gremlin for a barebones DVD of a TV movie from 1985 - Good luck, fucker!

The Originals - Supernatural Voodoo Woman from Sugar Hill. Fantastic theme song from the Zomblaxploitation classic. Raunchy and soulful, like any blaxploitation theme should be.

Paul Sabu - Cassie's Song from Hard Rock Zombies.Lovely tune, but it would've been more fitting playing over the credits of a movie called Power Ballad Zombies, or Mid-80s Puss Rock Zombies.

Gene Evaro - Oh What A Love, Oh What A Life from Mirror Mirror. Starring my favorite actress named Rainbow, Rainbow Harvest. Rainbow Ching's got nothing on Rainbow Harvest. Thanks to Vinnie for this one.

Shandi - Living on the Edge from Making the Grade, the Judd Nelson comedy from 1984. Anyone have the full soundtrack from this? Limited Edition of 1,500 was put out in 2005, couldn't find it anywhere though.

Eric Troyer - This is the Love from The Night Visitor (1989). Starring a very bearded Elliot Gould. This song, while very catchy seems a little too "wussy" for a movie about demons, hookers and ritual killings.

Zaniac! from Freak Out. Can't remember who this was credited to, fun Maniac-sounding track from the end credits of the film.

Nuclear Assault - Something Wicked from Warlock II: The Armageddon.

The Fontanelles - Kiss Kicker 99 from Hobgoblins. For me, one of the all-time most rewatchable MST episodes is show 907, featuring Hobgoblins. The Fontanelles performance was just one of many high points. The chorus from this poor song (which isn't actually too bad) is misinterpreted by Mike, Tom and Crow as everything from Pig Licker to Lick Kisser to Piss Taker....wait, that last one was mine.

Crispin Glover - Ben from Willard. I'm pretty amazed that I couldn't find this as an MP3 anywhere online. There's a creepy music video for this on the Willard DVD - which is where this rip comes from. Surprised that it wasn't all over the interweb already.

Ricky Nelson - Hello Mary Lou from Prom Night II. Not a fan of Prom Night (boring, fun music though), but Prom Night II and the incredibly comedic Prom Night III are both a blast.

Calimari Safari - Theme from Poultrygeist. Troma's finest hour? In my opinion, yes. At the very least, this has the funniest credits I've ever seen. A sample:
Andrew Monkelban... Wheelchaired Protester (as Andy Monkelban)
Chris Sciuto ... Looks Like a Dick
Elisabeth Sobocinski ... Pretty Young Protester
A.J. Verel ... Mexican with no Greencard
Debbie Rochon ... Famous Actress Hit by Beer
Elske McCain (hey, I've traded DVDs with her) ... Naked Protester
Nick Koenig ... Inside-out Jared / Head Cracked & Brains Scrambled Victim
Joshua Samuel Strauss ... Neckbrace
Keith Godejohn ... Soccer Leg Victim
Verena Jahnke ... Face in Deli Slicer
Ian C. King ... Head Cracker & Brains Scrambler Zombie
Purple Pam Shelby ... Fake Tits Ripped Off
Kevin Barnes ... Fake Tits Eating Zombie
Justin Bivens ... Make a Wish Zombie (as Justin 'Beast' Bivens)
Ryan Mead ... Princess Chicken Zombie
Steven A. Grainger ... Drumstick Victim
Bitte Andersson ... Gives Birth to Egg
Beth Charlesworth ... Afro Zombie
Louie Podlaski ... Spineless Victim
Trevor Black ... Mohawked Zombie
Gregory Paul Smith ... Dead Zombie in the Fry Bin
Charlotte Kaufman ...Dance-off Zombie #1
Sam Anderson ... Dance-off Zombie #2
D.J. Markuson ... Eyes Pecked Out Massacre Victim (uncredited)

Detroit's Most Wanted - The Reynold's Rap from Lunatics: A Love Story. Starring one of my favorite people, the gorgeous and talented Deborah Foreman. Also featuring a manic performance from the great Ted Raimi.

AD Vee has supplied a better quality version of Power of the Night. Get it here. Thanks AD!

If you enjoyed this one, I've got another one in the works I like to call Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Werewolves (patent pending).

Robot Fisticuffs - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

Here's my latest compilation, I call it Robot Fisticuffs. The theme for this one is "bands who share a name with a movie". Not every band here was actually directly influenced by the movie which they share a name with (some of the movies even came out after the band was created). Some of these just happen to be coincidental.

The cover comes from the May 1969 issue of Magnus Robot Fighter, 4000 A.D. I realize I'm coming off as kind of a one trick pony with my "old comic art, wacky title that has little to do with anything" cover designing formula, but until I actually attend any kind of design class, I'm having fun with the formula. Besides, it's just a little compilation that I had fun, uh, compiling, so I don't think anyone out there will be too worried. I've got a whole stack of old comics from when I helped a friends parents clean out their basement, so there are plenty more wacky covered compilations to come.

Here is the tracklist. For any films I thought might be lesser known, I've linked to their IMDB pages.

Black Sabbath - Killing Yourself to Live
Motorpsycho - No Evil
Rush - Mystic Rhythms
White Zombie - Feed The Gods
Misfits - Blood Feast
Heaven's Gate - Surrender
All About Eve - Flowers In Our Hair
My Bloody Valentine - Off Your Face
Real Life - Exploding Bullets
Element of Crime - Und du Wartest
BMX Bandits - Just Remember I'm a Woman
Say Anything - Chia-Like I Will Grow
Blondie - Union City Blue
Gore Gore Girls - I'm Gonna Get You Yet
Evil Dead - Living Good
The Gathering - Souvenirs
Fantomas - Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Devil Doll - Dies Irae Part 3,4, and 5

A few more that were considered, but ultimately dropped:
Quo Vadis - A badass Canadian Death Metal band - check them out at once!
Killdozer
They Might Be Giants
Warlock
Babes in Toyland
Phantom Planet
Soilent Green
Huh, that's more than I remembered dropping. Almost enough for another one...I think I smell a sequel...

The Thing With No Heads! - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

Here is another compilation I just finished working on. This is a follow-up to my Novelty Cigarette Lighter of Doom and Werewolf in Unnecessarily Short Gym Shorts compilations. These are all songs that share a title with a movie. Most of these don't actually have anything to do with the movie they share a title with, but I don't think anyone is really too worried about that.

As you'll see, this is a rather eclectic assortment of music, from Horror Punk, to Swedish Pop to Death Metal to whatever the hell you'd call the music The Tear Garden perform, with a bit of Horror Surf thrown in for good measure. It's mixed up enough to where everyone should find something they like and something they hate. But hopefully it'll be a fun compilation to check out.

Here are the tracks, I've put them up in no particular order. I'll like to let you decide how you want to listen to them. I've put IMDB links on a few of them for movies people might not realize are movies.

White Zombie - Spiderbaby
The Birthday Massacre - Neverending Story
The Haunted - Pieces
Bad Religion - Better Off Dead
Calabrese - Children of the Night
Gein and the Graverobbers - M
45 Grave - Evil
The Butthole Surfers - Dust Devil
Tristania - Equilibrium
The Cure - Last Dance
Wolf - The Curse
Burn To Black - The Vanishing
The Goblins - Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
The Goblins - Blood Drinkers
Warlock - Kiss of Death
Wolf - Ravenous
The Killcreeps - Human Monster
Holy Fuck - Safari
collection D'Arnell Andrea - Island of the Dead
ABBA - I've Been Waiting For You
Tear Garden - The Running Man

Get Heads

Here are some notes on a few of the song/movie title choices:

The Goblins - These guys have nothing to do with Goblin (who I believe I've seen listed as The Goblins on a movie before). These guys are kind of a loving tribute to The Misfits, but not quite. Kind of a Spinal Tap of horror punk, maybe? This guy right here seems to know the whole story. I put two of their songs on here because one of them was only 41 seconds long.

ABBA - I've Been Waiting For You - This was a TV movie from 1998 starring Ben Foster, Punky Brewster and Hot Becky.

The Butthole Surfers - Dust Devil - An ode to Lucifer, turkey and vacuums. I had to edit this one down, it's like 8 minutes long and over 5 of those minutes are just really noisy guitar freak-out wankery.

Be sure to look out for my next compilations, Bands That Share Their Name With Movie Titles, and Songs By Bands That Inspired Another Band's Name. That'll make more sense when I actually post them.

Creatures of the Night - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

Here is the second volume of covers, I call it Creatures of the Night. This one is pretty much entirely metal bands doing the covers, save for the Deftones track. They're not very metal. I think that this is the better compilation of the two, hopefully everyone will find something they enjoy.

This cover was from the sixth issue of Vampirella. I love the artwork, but I'm not entirely happy with my small contributions to the cover. I might try and fix it up but I don't know if I'll have time.

Iced Earth - Creatures of the Night (KISS)
Opeth - Would? (Alice in Chains)
Dimmu Borgir - Metal Heart (Accept)
Deceased - 2 Minutes To Midnight (Iron Maiden)
Warrel Dane - Lucretia My Reflection (Sisters of Mercy)
White Zombie - Children of the Grave (Black Sabbath)
Shadows Fall - Welcome To The Machine (Pink Floyd)
Therion - Thor (Manowar)
Heaven Shall Burn - Whatever That Hurts (Tiamat)
Arsis - Roses on White Lace (Alice Cooper)
Bruce Dickinson - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Black Sabbath)
Emperor - Gypsy (Mercyful Fate)
Edge of Sanity - Blood of my Enemies (Manowar)
Hammerfall - Man On The Silver Mountain (Dio)
Deftones - Simple Man (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Novembre - The Promise (Arcadia)
Iron Savior - Crazy (Seal)

I Got Erection - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

Here is my newest compilation, the first volume in a two volume (for now) collection of some of my favorite cover songs. I call it I Got Erection - named after a Turbonegro song covered by Satyricon, which is featured in this compilation. I've shortened the RAR name to IGE for anyone here whose wife might be pissed finding a file with Erection in the name.

For the most part these are metal bands doing covers of other hard rock or metal songs (it is still my music of choice, after all) but there are a few rather interesting covers here. Sonata Artica's cover of a Bette Midler Beaches classic, Surf band Gein and the Graverobbers' cover of Iron Maiden's Transylvania, or Children of Bodom's hilarious rendition of Kenny Rogers' Just Dropped In should at least elicit a smile from even the most smug of music fans.

The cover was done using both a Creepy cover (the down-syndrome Lon Chaney Dracula cover) and the moon from a poster for the movie Black Sheep. The vamp's head was actually in the Creepy logo, so I had to get him out of there and improvise on a background. This actually ended up being way more of a pain that I thought as it took forever to find something that actually looked okay behind him. Then there ended up being a lot of wasted space at the top, so I added the Stereotape logo to take care of that.

Here's the tracklist. It goes Band - Song (Original Band/Artist)

Satyricon - I Got Erection (Turbonegro)
Siebenburgen - Animal (Fuck Like A Beast) (W.A.S.P.)
Witchery - Riding On The Wind (Judas Priest)
Sonata Artica - The Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler)
Shadows Fall - December (Only Living Witness)
Children of Bodom - Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Is In) (Kenny Rodgers)
In Flames - Land of Confusion (Genesis)
To Die For - I Just (Died In Your Arms) (Cutting Crew)
Gein and the Graverobbers - Transylvania (Iron Maiden)
All That Remains - Believe in Nothing (Nevermore)
Galnaryus - Go (Asia)
Sentenced - Digging The Grave (Faith No More)
Dinosaur Jr. - Just Like Heaven (The Cure)
Bella Morte - Earth Angel (The Penguins)
Norther - Final Countdown (Europe)
Wolf - A Dangerous Meeting (Mercyful Fate)
Arch Enemy - The Book of Heavy Metal (Dream Evil)
Dream Evil - Let The Killing Begin (Arch Enemy)
Darkest Hour - Nazi Punks Fuck Off
Cradle of Filth - Hallowed Be Thy Name(Iron Maiden)

Get Erection

Sonata Artica - The Wind Beneath My Wings. While the idea of a power metal band covering Bette is pretty hilarious, what's odd is that this song really songs like it could've been written by and for a power metal band. Not unlike the Helloween song.

In Flames - Land of Confusion. This is a pretty decent cover, but I'd really have liked to hear Soilwork give it a go. Their singer has a considerably better, and less Jonathan Davis-like singing voice.

Galnaryus - Go. An Asian band doing a cover of a song by an English band called Asia.

Cradle of Filth - Hallowed Be Thy Name. The second Maiden cover on this compilation. A lot of people speak harshly of COF. While I'm no huge fan of their more recent output, I'd still consider myself a fan of them overall and I think this cover is pretty outstanding. The vocals could very well ruin it for a lot of people, but the musicianship is top notch in my opinion.

That's it for now, enjoy, and the second volume, Creatures of the Night should be up tomorrow.

Death By Metal - A Manchester Moruge Compilation

I planned on doing a "My favorite albums of 2007" post like I did last year, but that ended up taking a long time for me to do last time and I didn't really like the way it looked once it was done. So I thought I'd put together a compilation instead, featuring some of my favorite metal songs of the year. I call it Death By Metal. The compilation started off as a collection of Death Metal songs with the word Death in the title, but that ended up being more difficult to put together than you would think, so I thought it might be better as a year end type thing. Plus, this way I was able to mix it up and have an assortment of different metallic subgenres, a little something for everybody. I might do a non-metal compilation after this, for the anti-metal people out there but I haven't decided yet. I do get pretty bored pretty frequently, so I probably will.

Anyway, here's the tracklist for Death By Metal:

1. Lizzy Borden – Appointment With Death
2. Arch Enemy – The Last Enemy
3. Dark Tranquillity – The Mundane and the Magic
4. Novembre – Cobalt of March
5. The Duskfall – Deep In Your World
6. The Black Dahlia Murder – I Worship Only What You Bleed
7. Dawn of Tears - Blaspheme Natured Messiah
8. 3 Headed Monster – The Beast of Odo Island
9. Machine Men – Ghost of the Seasons
10. Darkest Hour – Demon(s)
11. Skeletonwitch – Fire From The Sky
12. Eldritch – Silent Flame
13. Scariot – Slaves
14. King Diamond – The Girl In The Bloody Dress
15. Dekapitator – Deathstrike Command
16. Nightmare – A Thrill of Death
17. Blood Tsunami – Rampage of Revenge

I put together a back cover for this one. The decapitated bear image is from an old poster from Who Slew Auntie Roo? (in case you're wondering) and Psychosis Records is something I just made up because I'm the type of guy who would make up a record label name for no good reason. Ignore all the fine print at the bottom, I just copied that more or less from something while making a CD cover template. Oh, and don't call that number unless you need to get in touch with Copasetik Recordings in London, four years ago.

2007 was an atrocious year for radio friendly music (Nickelback, Finger Eleven, any rap songs) but it was a great year for non-radio friendly music. Here's a very small list of some of the other music I enjoyed this year (that wasn't on the compilation already):

After Forever - After Forever
Agua De Annique - Air (Anneke van Giersbergen's new band)
Alcest - Souvenirs d'un autre monde
The Birthday Massacre - Walking With Strangers
Candlemass - King of the Grey Islands
Deathspell Omega - Fas-Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum
Dødheimsgard - Supervillain Outcast
Echoes of Eternity - The Forgotten Goddess
Epica - The Divine Conspiracy
God is an Astronaut - Far From Refuge
Hearts of Black Science - The Ghost You Left Behind
Indica - Kadonnut Puutarha
Neurosis - Given to the Rising
Shels - Sea of the Dying Dhow
Tristania - Illumination (Last album with Vibeke. Their new female vocalist, uh, not good.)
Virgin Black - Requiem - Mezzo Forte
Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters

That's just stuff I can think of off the top of my head, there were a lot of great albums in the past 12 months, and I haven't even heard half of what I would've liked to. Feel free to leave a comment and tell me some music that you enjoyed that I might've overlooked.

While I'm here, I don't really like to call anything "the Worst" of anything, but I had to do just one; Worst Song of the Year: Soldja Boy - Crank That. I want to punch this guy in the nuts every time I hear this song, which, thanks to my job is pretty much every day. Of course, I'm a pacifist (not a hippy, just non-violent) and I believe punching someone in the nuts would be very un-pacifist-like of me. But seriously, after you've had a guy go "Ohh!" over 50 times in your song you'd think you'd tell him to shut the hell up. Easily the worst song I've heard since Gwen Stefani gave us Hollaback Girl. But of course it's one of the most popular songs of the year, but a long shot. Go figure.
