Kolobos vs. Suspiria

This was supposed to go on my next compilation, but I only have a handful of tracks lined up for a new compilation, so here goes. When watching the 1999 film Kolobos, I couldn't help but notice the theme's striking similarity to Goblin's theme from Suspiria. This isn't just kind of close, this is like lawsuity similar. I assume, given Kolobos Argento-ian touches that pop up from time to time, that this was probably meant to be more homage than rip off. Have a listensee:

This is blasphemy I realize, but I kinda like the Kolobos one a bit better. One reason, that sound in Suspiria that sounds like they recorded Marangolo while he was tuning a drum. Really, really slowly. You know what I'm talking about. Drives me nuts. Suspiria is the better picture, hands down, but I've gotta give the edge to Kolobos' theme, even though they pretty much stole the entire thing from Goblin.

Wow. I've never seen another horror blogger bring up Kolobos. I haven't seen it in years, because I've only seen two video stores in the metro area that have it...and they probably got rid of their copies after converting their stores entirely to DVDs.

I have thought the same thing about the Kolobos theme every time I have watched it.

I really like KOLOBOS! Been praising it ever since I first saw it in VHS in 1999. One of the director use to visit and post on my forum. For more about the film check out my review:

I really didn't like Kolobos aside from the Argento copycat stuff. The Fulci eye impalement was a nice homage/rip. I'll save my praise for the original movies these came from. I do have to say William Kidd's score rips off Goblin very well. Thanks for reminding me about this.

By the way, Kolobos did get a DVD release through York in 1999.
