Jet Black Berries Unleash Postmodern Ghosts

Rochester New York's own Jet Black Berries have just released their first new album in 22 years. It goes by the name of Postmodern Ghosts and the album is comprised of new material as well as re-recordings of several classic New Math tracks like Invocation and They Walk Among You. Original members Chris Yockel, Gary Trainer, Mark Schwartz and drummer extraordinaire Roy Stein have all returned, the only missing member would be vocalist Kevin Patrick. Unfortunate that he's not back with them, but their tremendously talented new vocalist Johnny Cummings is a truly excellent replacement.

I've had a chance to check the album out and I recommend any Jet Black Berries/New Math fans seek it out at once. Post Modern Ghosts is an excellent comeback album that should be well received by old fans and one that should gain them many new fans as well.

Holy shit, apparently I fell into some kind of 25 day coma here. Quite sorry about that, my blog post writer's block has come back with a fierce vengeance lately. I've got stuff I want to post but it's a real hassle when you can't think of what to write on a post. My delete key is really getting a workout these days.

Anyway, you may remember last year I posted about Jet Black Berries reforming and releasing an EP. Well, today I received an email from Roy Stein - drummer extraordinaire of JBB. He wanted to let me know that their new full-length album Postmodern Ghosts (great title, by the way) will be released Sept. 7th (William Katt's birthday!) and you can check out a few of their new tracks out.

I love the first track God With A Gun, I've looped it for about 25 minutes straight now. Needless to say, I think it's pretty excellent. I like the others as well, but God With A Gun is really working for me. Check the new tracks out, and I'll be getting the new album soon and I'll post my thoughts once I've had a chance to digest the whole album.

New Math - Wake The Dead

Here is New Math's Wake The Dead, this has songs from their 'They Walk Among You' and 'Gardens' albums. If you downloaded the Jet Black Berries album I posted a few months back, give this one a shot. It has pretty much the same goth-tinged kinda pop/punk sound and contains the exact same lineup as the Jet Black Berries. They started as New Math in the mid 70s' and then changed the name to Jet Black Berries. For a little bio on the band check out this little fan page.

Jet Black Berries - Desperate Fires

This is Jet Black Berries 1986 album Desperate Fires. I love these guys, but there's not too much information floating around out there about them. They were on the Return of the Living Dead soundtrack, and were known as New Math either before and/or after being known as Jet Black Berries. Hopefully someone out there can fill me on, so I can stop sounding like a total idiot on this post. I think the first two tracks are a bit on the average side, but things pick up after that. I recommend "The Hardest Thing", one of my favorite songs. If anyone knows where to find their album Animal Necessity, let me know. I can't find that one anywhere.
