Amazing Deal of the Day: Death Ship Blu-ray $5 - Limited Quantity, Act Quickly

Free shipping for those of you with Prime, without Prime it's like $4 more, which is still a very good deal for this title. Not sure how many copies are left, so grab a copy now before it's too late. 

Amazon's Mini Scream Factory Sale

I'm sure everyone has been keeping up with Scream Factory's daily "The Price is Fright" sale - today's sale includes the highly recommended Dark Angel, and the even higherly recommended Ninja III.

Amazing Deal of the Day: The Monster Club Blu-ray $10.98

 
Scorpion's Blu-ray of The Monster Club just came out two weeks ago and Amazon currently has it on sale for the pretty remarkable price of $10.98. I believe it was in the $20-$25 range last time I checked, and it's hard to tell how long Amazon sales will last, so grab yourself a copy before the price jumps back up.

Preorder Maniac For Only $10.96

Franck Khalfoun's Maniac has been getting pretty much universal praise allover the internet - from those who weren't appalled by the level of violence, that is. Cover art and specs are both yet to be announced, but I thought some of you would be interested to know that Amazon currently has the Blu-ray up for preorder at the amazingly low price of $10.96 with an October 15th release date. I'd put in your order now to lock in the price because it will surely jump back up in the $20 range come October 15th.

On a side note - Franck Khalfoun's name might just be the most difficult name to type that I've ever come across. I've misspelled this dude's name about 15 different ways in the 3 or 4 Maniac posts I've done. Franc Kalhoun, Frank Kalhoun, Franck Kalfhoun...it's a very easy name to make a typo on - I recommend he change his name to Frank Kalhoun to make it easier for me.

Arrow Video is currently having a big sale on what appears to include everything they've released this year. With this sale those of us in the US can manage to grab all four of the recent Bava titles for about $52 shipped, which is substantially cheaper than getting them from Amazon UK. Jeff Lieberman's Remote Control - Get It Now For $10 Off

As I'm sure some of you remember a couple of months back director Jeff Lieberman put out limited edition DVDs and Blu-rays (limited to 1,000 copies of each) of his 1988 film Remote Control. Jeff has just reduced the price of each by $10, making the DVD $19.95, and the Blu-ray $24.95. Shipping is included in the price. 

The only downside is that it appears these no longer come autographed by Lieberman, though there isn't really indication one way or the other, but I doubt he'd fail to mention an autograph if they were autographed. Either way, I grabbed one today, I almost jumped at the $35 price tag, so this was an easy decision for me. I'm not sure how many of the original 1,000 of each format is still left, so act quick if you're interested. You can pick it up here.

Full Moon's 4th of July 50% Off Sale

Yet again it's time for Full Moon's annual 4th of July sale. Pretty much the entire site is on sale this time, even the "authentic" Wizard VHS big boxes. A word of warning though, shipping is a real son of a bitch. I put a $10 Wizard Video t-shirt in my cart, just one shirt, lowest ship option - Nine dollars. Yes, it's true the USPS did bump up their shipping prices recently, but not enough to where a Large t-shirt costs $9 to ship within the US. My company Phelpso (which, much like this very site is not so much a bunch of people in a building, but just me by myself in a house) occasionally sells DVDs on Amazon, shipping costs nowhere near what Full Moon is charging for it, even when you factor in shipping supplies.

Deep Discount's 13% Off Code - Expires 6/27

Deep Discount's 25% Off Sale took place earlier this month, but their practice of only including select titles in the sale usually makes that sale kind of a bust. Today they've put out a coupon code "DEEP13" that takes 13% off your order. Code expires 6/27 at Midnight. 

Sure, it's nowhere near as good as 25%, but the 13% does seem to actually work for most of what is on the site so you have a lot more choices with this new code. It's a way to grab a lot of the Scream Factory titles for about $15, which is the cheapest I've seen new copies go for. Tons of other decent deals, these are just some that stood out for me given how rarely they are on sale.

Deep Discount's 25% Off sales are nowhere near as exciting as they used to be, but I usually manage to find a couple of things worth a purchase. Although, if I'm being honest I'm not seeing anything so far, if anyone finds any great horror deals feel free to leave a comment.

Media Blasters DVDs Done Dirt Cheap at Suncoast/FYE

Anyone with an FYE or Suncoast nearby, a bunch of old Media Blasters/Shriek Show/Guilty Pleasures DVDs have started showing up priced between $1.97 and $3.97. One thing to remember when going into a Suncoast or an FYE, be prepared to say "No, thanks" A LOT. When checking out the dude will offer you 4 different promotions, one month trial for their Suncoast card, a 6 issue free trial of Sports Illustrated that you'll forget to cancel and end up paying a hundred and seventeen dollars for the whole year...just keep saying no until you have the receipt in your hand and you will be fine.

These DVDs are scattered around the store, so you will have to look around a bit. I found a few in the horror section, a few in a bin right outside the front of the store, but most of them were on a wall with a sign that said something like "Low Priced Movies". At my store this wall was located partially behind the counter, which made me feel like I was going to accidentally rob the store while I was flipping through the discs.

Big Lots - Cheap Ass DVD Watch Vol. 4

Okay, I swear I don't work for this company. But their deals are getting better and better and I want to make sure the dozens (dozens!) of people who read my non-music sharing* posts can try and get in on these insane prices. I swung by yesterday and stumbled upon their latest assortment, $3 TV Box Sets, sets even better than the ones they had for $6 that I mentioned last week. I spent $45 total (well, $48 after tax) and came home with:

Something like $680 MSRP worth of discs for $45. That was pretty much all I could afford to buy yesterday, but they had a ton more. To name a few:

That NFL set has 40 discs by the way. That's gotta weigh 9 pounds. But, the best deal of all, some are finding this Looney Tunes Collection Volume 1-5 set, list price $325, among the $10 DVD sets.

Not content with just selling $3 DVDs, Cheap Furniture, and discontinued snack food (Burger King flamed-broiled potato chips anyone?) Big Lots, America's favorite weird-ass closeout store is branching out into ridiculously cheap TV box sets. Not cheap TV sets like these (which they also have), they're selling quality Warner Brothers box sets with high MSRPs (even a couple Blu-Ray sets) for the low, low cost of $6 a piece.

Big Lots 2 : The Reckoning

I've been to Big Lots a couple of times since my last posting and thought I'd show my latest finds. Sure all of these were mentioned in the big list on the last post, but it looks much cooler when you can see a giant stack of savings instead of just reading about it.

I think that most of the stores have just restocked the HBO titles, so now is a good time to check if you're looking for any of the TV series like Lucky Louie or Arliss.

Big Lots - Your Source for cheap ass DVDs

I find you don't often hear a lot of kind words about Big Lots (your friendly neighborhood closeout retailer). Probably due to their notoriety of seemingly only being located in terrifying neighborhoods in less than reputable parts of town. That and the fact that the employees look more zombie-like and miserable than even those at Wal-Mart. I mean no disrespect to employees of either store - I work at a store myself - just saying, they seem to hate being there more than people employed at most stores.

That being said, fellow DVD collectors who have overlooked the store should probably visit their nearest location at their earliest convenience. For the past year or two they've been stocking tons of DVDs for the sum of $3 a piece. And these aren't just crappy public domain titles, these are real sealed DVDs from companies like Sony, MGM and HBO and there are some spectacular deals to be had for people who still collect regular old SD DVDs.

Above is a picture of my recent Big Lots purchases over the last few months. Mostly the past couple of weeks though, as the MGM and HBO stock is pretty recent. As you can see, a few poor choices are to be found - I still can't explain why I handed over currency in exchange for the Super Dave movie - but there are some very good titles in there as well. Some of the stuff I picked up, like the Batman serials, the Deluxe Guys and Dolls and Arli$$ still sell for $25-$40 on Amazon. Big Lots, somehow, is letting them go for three American dollars. So it's well worth a visit if you, like me, can't resist a good bargain.
