Robot Fisticuffs - A Manchester Morgue Compilation

Here's my latest compilation, I call it Robot Fisticuffs. The theme for this one is "bands who share a name with a movie". Not every band here was actually directly influenced by the movie which they share a name with (some of the movies even came out after the band was created). Some of these just happen to be coincidental.

The cover comes from the May 1969 issue of Magnus Robot Fighter, 4000 A.D. I realize I'm coming off as kind of a one trick pony with my "old comic art, wacky title that has little to do with anything" cover designing formula, but until I actually attend any kind of design class, I'm having fun with the formula. Besides, it's just a little compilation that I had fun, uh, compiling, so I don't think anyone out there will be too worried. I've got a whole stack of old comics from when I helped a friends parents clean out their basement, so there are plenty more wacky covered compilations to come.

Here is the tracklist. For any films I thought might be lesser known, I've linked to their IMDB pages.

Black Sabbath - Killing Yourself to Live
Motorpsycho - No Evil
Rush - Mystic Rhythms
White Zombie - Feed The Gods
Misfits - Blood Feast
Heaven's Gate - Surrender
All About Eve - Flowers In Our Hair
My Bloody Valentine - Off Your Face
Real Life - Exploding Bullets
Element of Crime - Und du Wartest
BMX Bandits - Just Remember I'm a Woman
Say Anything - Chia-Like I Will Grow
Blondie - Union City Blue
Gore Gore Girls - I'm Gonna Get You Yet
Evil Dead - Living Good
The Gathering - Souvenirs
Fantomas - Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Devil Doll - Dies Irae Part 3,4, and 5

A few more that were considered, but ultimately dropped:
Quo Vadis - A badass Canadian Death Metal band - check them out at once!
Killdozer
They Might Be Giants
Warlock
Babes in Toyland
Phantom Planet
Soilent Green
Huh, that's more than I remembered dropping. Almost enough for another one...I think I smell a sequel...

Ah, Feed the Gods ... the only good thing to come from that Airheads movie.

Hey, Phelpster... thanks for all the great finds/compilations over the years.

I was wondering if you've ever seen a copy of Hardbodies' soundtrack floating around out there. I'm thinking in particular of that awful "Computer Madness," song that features towards the end. Also can't get a hold of Morricone's "Who saw her die?" if you run across it.

Cheers, Dan

I've been trying to track down mp3's of Killdozer's "King of Sex" and their cover of "Sweet Home Alabama",

MSO - Yeah, I think Feed The Gods is actually their best song, (at least the heaviest) weird that it's only on that one soundtrack album.

Airheads wasn't great, but Steve Buscemi with long hair reminds me of Rex from Pantera a lot, so I do get a kick out of that.

Anonymous - For about 3 or 4 months I had an unfinished torrent of the Hardbodies soundtrack on my computer. I never got a chance to complete the download and now I can't seem to find the site I found it on. I will keep looking for it though and post it if I find it. I do have Who Saw Her Die though, once I did it out I will post it.

Michael - Velvety Sheath, Glistening Sword has several Killdozer posts, I would check there, he might have them.

I Love the Gore Gore Girls song, I've got that on blood red vinyl 7".

While I'm here, I hope that this interests you.

I am attempting to amass a large collection of portraits of Frankenstein's Monster in as many different styles and in as many different media as possible as an ongoing art project. The only stipulation is that the size is 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches (standard artist trading card size) and that each card has name, date, title and anything else you care to add on the back.

I welcome cards from both amateur and professional artists.

I will be leaving blank cards with instructions and mailing address in galleries, colleges, art shops, on buses, handing them out in the street and wherever else I can think of.

If you think you can spare the time to produce a little something, please send a portrait to:

A Patchwork Of Flesh
45 Silversea Drive
Westcliff on Sea
Essex
SS0 9XD
United Kingdom

Each card I receive will be uploaded at http://apatchworkofflesh.blogspot.com/ to produce an on-line gallery, I then hope to put on an exhibition of these cards in a gallery.

Where did you find that picture? Any leads on where I can find a copy in poster form etc would be most appreciated...

James - I just scanned my copy of the comic for the cover. I could send you the high quality scan, but it's only about a 6x8 image. When I worked at a printing place I turned a 200kb Dead and Buried DVD cover image into a pretty good quality 16x22 poster, you might be able to try something that size. Let me know if you want the scan I have.
