Curtains From Synapse July 8th!

Great news, Curtains is coming soon. Like really soon. Synapse has set July 8th as the date for their Blu-ray and DVD release. I was a bit worried they might go the Demons Steelbook route with this release, but I'm so glad they're putting this out as a proper release. Check the press release below:

SOMEONE IS WAITING, SOMEONE IS WATCHING...

CURTAINS
AVAILABLE ON BLU-RAY AND DVD JULY 8!

CURTAINS Blu-rayAND THE CURTAINS PART!

John Vernon (CHAINED HEAT, National Lampoon’s ANIMAL HOUSE) and Samantha Eggar (THE BROOD, THE EXTERMINATOR) star in this horror classic from the golden age of the slasher genre.

A group of women gather for a weekend casting call at the secluded mansion of director Jonathan Stryker (Vernon). He’s searching for the perfect woman to play the role of the crazed character “Audra”, and these women are just dying for the chance to play her! Stryker’s last star, Samantha Sherwood (Eggar), is so determined to get the part, she committed herself to an asylum to prepare for the role. Unfortunately for all, a crazed killer in a disgusting “hag” mask is viciously murdering everyone one by one. Who will survive the final curtain call?

Lovingly re-mastered in 2K resolution from original vault materials virtually untouched for over 30 years, CURTAINS makes its high-definition world premiere from Synapse Films.

Lou Garou: Lycanthropic Law Enforcer! Full Trailer For Wolf Cop Online

Ah, finally, a full trailer for Wolf Cop. I'm seriously excited about this one:

It’s not unusual for alcoholic cop Lou Garou to black out and wake up in unfamiliar surroundings, but lately things have taken a strange turn. Crime scenes seem oddly familiar. Lou’s senses are heightened, and when the full moon is out, he’s a rage-fueled werewolf. Wolfcop is one cop’s quest to become a better man… One transformation at a time.

Zombie Fight Club - All You Can Do is Shrieking!

I caught this trailer for the upcoming Taiwanese film Zombie Fight Club on Bloody-Disgusting where people commented about how dumb it looks, but I don't know, maybe I'm easy to please or just kind of dumb, but when I see a trailer filled with Kung fu, zombies, and a few really beautiful Taiwanese women in their underwear I am sold. Oh, it might suck total ass, but I'll watch it just to be sure.

Fun fact: there is an actual human person called MC Hotdog in this movie.

Trailer for Vampyres Remake Starring Caroline Munro

A new trailer has surfaced online for the upcoming remake of the 1974 film Vampyres. This is a pretty cool trailer because the first half is a brief interview with the director of the original film, the late José Ramón Larraz that I believe was filmed shortly before his passing. Check it out below.

Death's Remastered Leprosy Album Streaming At Loudwire

I'm sure a few of the people who stop by here enjoy the occasional classic death metal album. So I thought I'd point out that Loudwire is currently streaming the remastered version of Death's 1987 album Leprosy, which is being reissued on CD and LP by Relapse next Tuesday. The remaster sounds great, metal fans, check it out.

Scream Factory to Get Their Own Limited Edition Fangoria Issue

Scream Factory has put out so many titles at this point that Fangoria has gone and dedicated an entire issue to the label. The issue covers every title currently available from the label, plus some upcoming Scream titles like Phantom of the Paradise and Motel Hell.

I personally stopped buying magazines when they started costing $10 an issue - I understand the reasoning for the pricing, it's just more than I'm willing, or able to spend. I just might have to make an exception for this one:

FANGORIA is pleased as putrid punch to announce the mother of all creepy collaborations: a massively cool partnership between America’s favorite horror magazine and the nation’s best-selling retro-horror boutique home-video imprint, Scream Factory.

Coming this summer is a glorious, limited-edition FANGORIA Presents: SCREAM FACTORY special issue (see the cover below), a complete A-Z essay compendium spotlighting every classic and cult horror film currently offered by the celebrated label, penned by FANGORIA staffers and supported by in-depth interviews and acres of rare, full-color photos. This glossy love letter will be printed on heavier paper stock and sold only via specialty newsstands and at Fangoria.com.

“The team here at Scream Factory is honored to be working on such an in-depth and fun project with FANGORIA,” say Scream Factory brain trusts Cliff MacMillan and Jeff Nelson. “Since many of our releases are films we grew up on and that appeared in Fango in the past, this special edition is a surreal full-circle moment for us, and we hope for our fans as well.”

Fango editor Chris Alexander concurs: “Scream Factory has created a name for itself not just for delivering beautiful releases of classic titles like DAY OF THE DEAD, THE HOWLING, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS and HALLOWEEN II, but in rolling out the red carpet for lesser-loved gems like THE ISLAND, PSYCHO III, THE HORROR SHOW and DIE, MONSTER, DIE! This magazine offers an opportunity for our staff to rhapsodize over this wealth of genre goodness while also uniting our collective fan bases. We’re having a blast making this thing, and we’re sure you’ll have a blast reading it.”
FANGORIA Presents: SCREAM FACTORY will be on sale in late August; keep checking back here for more updates as we get them.

Pumpkinhead + Pumpkinhead 2: Son of Pumpkinhead Coming From Scream Factory

I'm a bit late on posting this, I've been busy all day because I spent my first Record Store Day actually out at record stores. I didn't find the Bronx Warriors soundtrack I was after but I did make it on TV, so that was kind of neat -  I'm the balding beardy guy in the brown jacket (talking to the guy with the umbrella I didn't know but spent 2 hours of my life with) 22 seconds into this clip.

Anyway, big announcement from Scream Factory, followed by a less big announcement from Scream Factory:

Poster from ShitMovieFest. Not official Scream artwork.

Stan Winston’s 1988 monster film PUMPKINHEAD (one of our most highly-requested titles) will be coming to the ‘factory’ on Blu-ray for the first time this September! And…its 1993’s sequel PUMPKINHEAD II: BLOOD WINGS will be released on the same date too!

We announced these on the latest episode of “Choice Cuts” over at Shock Till You Drop. Check out the full episode where we also talk at length about our process, titles and more @ http://bit.ly/1ha5vkW

PUMPKINHEAD will be a “Collector’s Edition” (in fact, artwork is just about done) and PUMPKINHEAD II will be its own separate release. No further details to report at this time but we'll keep you posted on developments during our “Summer of Fear”.

I think Pumpkinhead is a legitimately good movie, so this is great news. Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings is a bit of a turkey, but my friend and I had one of our all time greatest movie riff offs during Pumpkinhead 2, so sure, it's a bad movie wrought with bad acting and startling continuity errors, but it's certainly quite entertaining, so count me in on both releases.

A Fistful of Gold - Poster For The Upcoming Leprechaun Reboot

A new poster is online today for the forthcoming Midgetsploitation film Leprechaun: Origins, starring the WWE's resident Little Person who kinda sorta wrestles a bit. At least I think he wrestles. I don't know, I've been subjected to several WWE events thanks to a friend in Virginia, I've never seen this fucker do anything other than grab people's ankles from outside the ring and act as the butt of several Dwarfist pranks.

This new one is supposed to be more brutal and gruesome than the previous series. If that's the case I welcome it and hope it's far less silly than the Warwick Davis stuff. Don't get me wrong, Warwick is an awesome guy, and he was clearly having a blast in the role, but those movies were pretty goddamn goofy.

Jungle Cannibals Attack in New Trailer For Eli Roth's The Green Inferno

New trailer is out for Eli Roth's cannibal epic The Green Inferno. This trailer is actually pretty family friendly with no gore or nudity, but I think it's safe to say thinks are going to get pretty gross in this one. We'll all find out when it comes out September 5th. September 5th? This trailer is out so far in advance of the movie's release it reminds me of those made for Disney Channel movies like Camp Rock or the one from last year, Beach Grease, or whatever. They always put their commercials out like 6 months in advance so by the time the movie comes out nobody cares. Not that I've watched any of those things, I live with kids, I've seen the commercials. A lot. I'm sorry, how am I talking about the Disney Channel right now? I don't know what happened there, here's the trailer.

World's Greatest Ventriloquist Otto Peterson Has Died At the Age of 53

Just over a week ago the standup comedy world lost John Pinette, and now sadly another legendary comedian has joined him. Ventriloquist, and all around hilarious comedian Otto Peterson of Otto & George fame died today in his sleep at the age of 53. Full story at The Laugh Button.

Catching Otto & George in the 90's on a Showtime show called Full Frontal Comedy was one of the acts that really got me into comedy - in fact I currently have that performance saved on my phone and it keeps getting funnier every time I see it. Goddammit, all the celebrities I love are dropping like flies lately, what is happening?

To honor the worlds greatest "worst" ventriloquist here are several of his performances. Heads up though, this stuff is raunchy, don't watch it in front of children or pets.

Skip to about 22 minutes on this one. Also, nudity warning. Don't worry, not from Dom Irrera.

Brutal Teaser For Brian O' Malley's Let Us Prey

Speaking of overly intense and hyper-realistic, get a look at this teaser for the upcoming film Let Us Prey:

From Twitch:

Rachel, a rookie cop, is about to begin her first nightshift in a neglected police station in a backwater town.   The kind of place where the tide has gone out and stranded a motley bunch of the aimless, the forgotten, the bitter-and-twisted who all think that, really, they deserve to be somewhere else.  They all think they're there by accident and that, with a little luck, life is going to get better.   Wrong, on both counts.  Six is about to arrive - and All Hell Will Break Loose!

Set to have its world premiere at the prestigious Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival on April 17, Let Us Prey stars Liam Cunningham (Game Of Thrones, Dog Soldiers) and Pollyanna McIntosh (The Woman, Love Eternal)

Own One of 500 1:4 Scale Leatherface Statues Today

Texas Chainsaw fans, this 1:4 scale Leatherface statue can be yours for several $41 dollar payments:

Preorder here

Not sure why they went with the Texas Chainsaw version though. A lot of people really weren't too into that one when it came out, so it seems like they should've gone with the one from the first film, or my personal favorite Leatherface, the one from Part 2.

I'm one of the few that did enjoy Texas Chainsaw, despite it being a bit on the goofy side - in fact I liked it because it was a bit goofy. "Do your thing, cuz!" was one of the most wonderfully stupid lines I've heard in years. It was dumb, sure, and yeah the girl should've been 10 years older, but I didn't really care. It didn't make me think one bit, but it kept me entertained and sometimes that's all you need.

I don't know, I think horror is getting too grim for me lately. Take TCM: The Beginning for example. It's a fine enough movie, but all I kept thinking the entire time is "Man, this is kinda bumming me out." You always hear of people being desensitized to violence, but I'm the opposite. As I'm getting older I'm finding myself to be a lot more squeamish than I was before being subjected to countless gruesome horror movies over the past 25 years. I'm not disgusted by it like I'm gonna hork or anything, I'm just finding it more unpleasant to watch as I get older. I still love horror, but I find myself steering clear of the overly intense hyper realistic stuff. Anyone else experiencing this, or am I nuts?

Pitchfork Murders & Oderus Urungus - New This Week 4.8.14

There's some very cool new stuff out there this week worth checking out. Up first from Vinegar Syndrome is the Drive-In Collection DVD of the Dr. Jekyll Portfolio and A Clockwork Blue. If you missed the limited Blu-ray release a couple of weeks back you can pick up the DVD now from the VS shop. I believe the only difference between the two releases (apart from the fact that one is a Blu-ray) was that the Blu-ray featured the X-rated cut of Clockwork that features bit of hardcore footage.

JEKYLL & HYDE PORTFOLIO (1971)
In this notorious mix of sexploitation and slasher, a mysterious murderer is terrorizing the patients and staff at a rural sanitarium. Who will be the killer’s next prey in this blood and sex soaked classic?
Director: Eric Jeffrey Haims
81 minutes / Color / AR: 1.85:1
A CLOCKWORK BLUE (1972)
Hapless researcher Homer travels through history, discovering the erotic secrets of the past in this lost screwball sexploitation gem.
Director: Eric Jeffrey Haims
86 minutes / Color / AR: 1.85:1
Features Include:
+ Dual Layer DVD-9 | Region Free | 1.85:1 Anamorphic | MONO
+ Scanned in 2k & 4K from 35mm internegative & 35mm camera negative

Also from Vinegar Syndrome is the way-better-than-it-should-be WIP film Lust For Freedom. This one has all of the elements; Awkward kung fu, exploding cars, Michelle Bauer boobs, Grim Reaper on the soundtrack, and a warden who looks like a drag Adrienne Barbeau. It's cheap and tacky, but I had a lot of fun with it and I recommend those of you who don't need movies to "be good" or "make sense" check it out.

After her boyfriend is brutally murdered in a sting operation, special agent Gillian Kaites is implicated in the slaying and is sentenced to prison. While behind bars, she discovers a shocking web of corruption and begins to plot a bloody revenge in this action and T & A filled Troma classic from director by Eric Louzil (CLASS OF NUKE ‘EM HIGH Pts. 2 & 3) and producer by Lloyd Kaufman (THE TOXIC AVENGER)!
Vinegar Syndrome is pleased to bring this 80s cult hit to DVD newly restored from the original negative.
Director: Eric Louzil
94 minutes / Color / AR: 1.85:1
Features Include:
+ Dual Layer DVD-9 | Region Free | 1.85:1 Anamorphic | MONO
+ Audio commentary with Director Eric Louzil
+ Video interview with Producer Lloyd Kaufman
+ Original theatrical trailer
+ Scanned in 2k from 35mm blow-up negative

Comedian John Pinette Has Died at the Age of 50

Sad news today for fans of comedy, John Pinette has died at the age of 50:

Stand-up comedian John Pinette, 50, was found dead in his room Saturday afternoon at the Sheraton Station Square. Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said a relative was concerned after not hearing from Mr. Pinette for an extended period and contacted security at the hotel.

Mr. Pinette was in Pittsburgh for a family function, Ms. Toler said. She declined to discuss details of the function. His manager, Larry Schapiro, could not be reached. The hotel's security detail opened Mr. Pinette’s room for the relative, where they found him and called city police.

The comedian was pronounced dead at the scene around 2:30 p.m.

A supervisor with the Allegheny County medical examiner's office said Mr. Pinette had been suffering liver and heart disease and that his death was due to natural causes.

    Read more at the Post-Gazette

I mostly post about horror and exploitation movies here, but I'm also a really big stand up comedy fan, so this news is destroying me right now. While I tend to prefer the darker and more obscene comedy of guys like Doug Stanhope, Dana Gould or Tom Segura I always enjoyed John's material and I think it's sad that most people don't know his comedy and that he's most commonly recognized as "that fat guy from the Seinfeld finale". It's truly a sad day for comedy, John will be missed.

    Arrow Video's Incredible Melting Man

Arrow Video just announced their upcoming release of The Incredible Melting Man and say what you will about the movie, but this new Gary Pullin cover art is one of my absolute favorite pieces of movie art I've ever seen. I'm not kidding, this is perfect.:

*** THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN ***

As some of you crafty people have already figured out, we are indeed going to be releasing everyone's favourite astronaut-is-reduced-to-mush movie THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN later this year! Time to go all gooey over the new cover art from the ever fantastic Gary Pullin.

While I think The Incredible Melting Man is an underrated movie, I'm okay with only owning the Scream Factory release (which is great). But I love this new art so much I'm very tempted to buy this second release just to own that cover art.

Neon Maniacs, Nail Gun Massacre + More on Blu-ray From Code Red

Code Red has just added FIVE new Blu-ray preorders to their Big Cartel page. Each release is limited to 1,000 copies - except Neon Maniacs which is 1,2000. You can see all of the new titles here. In a very smart move they've put up a bundle package of all five releases for $100. I was only in for Neon and Nail Gun at first but I ended up just grabbing the whole lot when I saw I could save $8 by buying all five. I hope they start offer up bundle packages like this, I'd probably buy a lot more from them .

If you want any of these I'd move on them now, I think this bundle might help Bill sell through these titles pretty quickly.

These are preorders and I haven't seen an official release date, but they usually don't post preorders months in advance, so I think these will be shipping in about a week or two.

In a small Texas town, the peaceful atmosphere is shattered when a beautiful young woman is the victim of a savage sexual assault by a gang of construction workers. Shortly after this horrific event, a masked killer begins a blood-drenched killing spree with the help of a pneumatic nail gun. Victims are nailed to trees! Lovers are nailed to each other! As the increasingly mutilated bodies begin to pile up, a local sheriff and the town doctor begin an investigation to solve the deadly crimes before the Nail Gun Killer finishes his gruesome masterpiece of industrial strength horror! Will they be able to stop this wisecracking madman in time, or will they be the last unlucky souls to get nailed? Is anyone safe from this gleeful psychopath's murderous mission?

    SPECIAL FEATURES
+ Brand New HiDef mastered created from the only surviving elements from filmmaker
    • Visit the Nail Gun Massacre Locations
    • Joe Bob Briggs interviews the cast at Texas Frightmare Weekend
    • Interview with director Terry Lofton
    • Interview with Whitey Thomas
    • An Evening at the Alamo Drafthouse with Rocky Patterson and Michelle Meyer
+ added bonus. previous distributor said in their blog....

When doing the new transfer and seeing the FULL aperture in the telecine, there were a lot of microphones, wires, light reflections and, even at the end, the legs of the killer flying up from a dirt pile, that were never meant to be seen and were printed on the film, but meant to be masked out in theatres. During one bedroom scene, the microphone was practically all the way up to the top of the bed with the actors! LOL! It would be silly to release it full frame and have microphones hanging in scenes, especially when they weren't supposed to be there.

The older master was probably slightly zoomed in to remove these mics, wires, etc. all those years ago when it was first created. And, if that's the case, perhaps ours will have a lot more side L/R info, since we didn't zoom in. I'll dig out the limited DVD and take a look as soon as I get a VHS check tape of our transfer to compare, but ours will definitely look far superior quality wise... and be framed properly.

SINCE THE OTHER LABEL SUPERVISED THE SAME 16MM ELEMENT WE USED. CODE RED WAS AT DELUXE AND FOTOKEM ON THIS TITLE! SO CODE RED IS PROUD TO PLACE A "BOOM MIKE CUT" ON THE BLU SO WE ALL CAN ENJOY THE MICS, WIRES AND ALL THE GOOD STUFF! NOW IT'S FRAMED PROPERLY AVOIDING THE BOOM MIKE AND ALSO ANOTHER VERSION AS A ADDED BONUS AS A "BOOM MIKE CUT"!

In the heart of San Francisco, the legions of the damned lay waiting beneath the Golden Gate Bridge. As night falls, this battalion of butchery is unleashed upon the city to carve terror into the souls of the innocent. But when one young woman named Natalie (Leilani Sarelle of Basic Instinct) escapes a bloody teen slaughter, she can't convince anyone that a rampaging army of psychotic 'monsters' has mutilated her friends. Now haunted, hunted and having a hard time in high school, Natalie must arm herself and her classmates for one final bizarre battle against the horror of the Neon Maniacs!
    SPECIAL FEATURES
+ brand new HiDef master !
+ on camera interview with make-up artist Alan Alpone
    + isolated music track
    + original trailer

AUTHORIZED RELEASE! Tail end of the best selling bootleg! fake 3-D version that was sold eveywhere. Now finally it comes a legit release from CODE RED DVD licensed from the usa producers. (yes, the other label stole it from two nice old people. now claim they licensed it from a known homeless man (!). this will not stick in court )

that crappy 3-d bullsh+t release received the wonderful review by Amazon reviewer's Alaric Rocha, Daniel Jolley, Ksmall who seems to support vhs dupe. thanks for wanting low quality garbage!

since the crappy 3-D sold 2,000+ copies, there is no customers left on this release on dvd. so limited Blu is the only place to go. Please support this release to prove the scummy bootlegger that miracle can happen to dead titles.

A beautiful artist moonlights as a vampire while in Mexico, killing lovers of both sexes. It seems that the only person who has any chance of stopping her reign of terror is her father, who's also a vampire. starring Christina Ferrare, John Carradine. Directed by Juan López Moctezuma

    SPECIAL FEATURES
    - New HiDef transfer from the only surviving 35mm elements
    - Interview with Producer Henri Bolinger

When a small town high school reunion occurs, a born loser (T.G. Finkbinder) who is now a pastor makes a pact with the devil himself. He will kill his fellow schoolmates one by one to redeem himself and to hopefully get his second possessed thumb removed(!) He proves to be a master of disguise - and he even treats his victim to some hammy acting. Revenge and death will never be the same as The Redeemer slowly kills his victims in various gory methods! Starring Jeanetta Arnette (TV's Head Of The Class), this copyright 1978 drive-in classic is finally released on Blu from the best 35mm print. (little rough, but they I did my best). DVD did make a tiny profit, so the rights owner said let move on the Blu!
    Widescreen 1.66:1 Color

After nearly being rundown by a gang known as the Scars, Brenda (Linda Blair) and friends trash the leader's car. Gang leader, Jake, exacts his revenge by getting his cohorts to gang-rape her mute-dead sister, Heather (in a gloriously naunced role by Linnea Quigley). Armed with a crossbow and a bad attitude, Linda Blair sets out to avenge her mute-deaf sister while blazing a bloody, Bronson-inspired trail through 80's Los Angeles.

Sorority House Massacre Slashes Its Way Onto Blu-ray July 8th

Scorpion has just announced that Sorority House Massacre, the lone film in director Carol Frank's filmography will be making its Blu-ray debut this July. Like with Slumber Party Massacre this is another film where I have only seen the sequels and not the original. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

OK, enough with the April Fools joke. Some real announcements. On July 8, in conjunction with New Horizons, we will be releasing a BluRay of SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE, featuring a brand new HD master from the OCN!

Check Out Gruesome Short 'Like a Doll'

If you've got 5 minutes, I highly recommend checking out director Joseph Catté's short film Like a Doll - Comme une Poupé. It's odd, gruesome and unsettling - and well worth a look (though I wouldn't recommend watching it at work).

"Like a Doll" is a short horror movie, freely adapted from a Roland Topor's monologue. It depicts the struggle of a young woman against a masculine entity.  Directed by Joseph Catté. Starring Pauline Helly. April 2014.

If you enjoyed Like a Doll you can see more of Joseph's work here.

Impulse Pictures Presents The Chambermaids & Honey Buns

TWO BLASTS FROM ADULT FILMS PAST!

    THE CHAMBERMAIDS
    AND
    HONEY BUNS

From 1973 and 1974, two 42nd street gems from the heyday!

    ------------------------------------------------
Impulse Pictures brings on the memories, and the mammaries, with two flicks from 1973 and 1974, the Years of the Deuce!

Mary Ellen and Sally, two lovely maids at a local hotel, are tired of their boring, dead-end cleaning jobs.  To liven up their work, these two horny honeys decide to give the guests a little extra “room service.” When some honeymooners and businessmen arrive, the humping and bumping gets even hotter for our heroines as the night goes on.  In the morning, will they decide to keep their jobs after all?

The amateurish camerawork, microphone shadows, elevator music, terribly recorded sound and “you are there” extreme sex close-ups, will bring you back to the days when adult films were cheap and fast and VERY sleazy.  Re-mastered from a scratchy, barely surviving, theatrical print, THE CHAMBERMAIDS is a steamy slice of 70’s sex cinema that will have you cleaning up your own room after you watch it!

Poor Harry! He’s a clumsy, bumbling sad sack who works at the “Internally Yours” feminine hygiene company. Destined to remain eternally alone, Harry meets “The Magician,” a man who knows what Harry wants and gives him a red pill that will make all his dreams come true.  Soon, Harry is making beautiful women appear and do his bidding, but there’s a catch!  Just as soon as he gets aroused, the women vanish!  Will Harry ever learn the secret to keeping these fantastic ladies in his life, or will he forever remain a limp chump?  Hot adult film starlets Uschi Digard and Rene Bond appear in this crazy fantasy-themed erotic feature. HONEY BUNS stars Rene Bond, Uschi Digard, and Matt Hewitt.
